HSBC said they were going to lay off 30,000 or 10% of there work force over a ten year period.

Problem is Sony, who i work for did this already themselves, what they don't tell the public is they really lay off about 50% of there employee's and then hire college gradutes entry level employee's with shit benefits to replace anybody with senority. So to the public it doens't look that bad, but it is.

HSBC made a profit last year, this is Greed.

I support their right to cut jobs or move them elsewhere. People will go where the jobs are.

    Not really the whole story.

Positive spin: they're shifting their business strategy focus from established, low growth markets to emerging, high growth potential markets. Can't really blame them for that.

Negative spin: they're outsourcing their internal operational processes to cheaper labor sources with less regulation and red tape.

    I report, you decide.

Well maybe the whole tariff thing is a little harsh. But I am all for cutting tax breaks and closing many of their loop holes.

Companies will pay what they want to in taxes and will make the rest up in sales prices.

I don't favor taxing them any more. The last place I want money to go to is the government.

The company I work for is doing the same thing and making full time almost non existing. Most of he benefits are only given to full time employees. This company is one of Forbes top 100 companies to work for.

BTW, part of this (not all, but it certainly didn't help) is caused by the mandated benefits by Obamacare. I'm sure it sounded like a good idea, but b/c only clueless people were involved, it had the exact expected (but unintended) consequence. They need to get out from under it now before the bill takes full effect.

Unfortunately, a small amount of coverage is better than mandating more coverage. Of course, the unions and McDonald's got exemptions. And thus, the goose with the golden egg (employer based health coverage) has begun to be slaughtered (as opposed to the Bush era Medicare Rx bill which paid employers 2/3rds of the total cost if they improved coverage to a certain level - that gets criticized as helping businesses - and, yes, it does, but it also achieved greater coverage for employer sponsored Medicare plans and fixed the gov't cost at 2/3rds what it would cost if those members had to be covered through fee for service Medicare). Good job, Hope and Change!

why is it that the countries in europe have good economies, low unemployment, and universal healthcare while we have a shitty economy, high unemployment rate, and 30 million without health insurance? if they can do it, why can't we??

oh yeah....they use socialism, or non-predatory capitalism...what was i thinking?

Probably cuts on the F-22 Advanced Tactical Fighter and F-35 Joint Forces Strike Fighters Programs where Lockheed-Martin is the prime contractor.
F-22 is the replacement for the F-15 to maintain Air Superiority and its production has pretty much been shutdown by now. Current inventory is around 200.
F-35 is the one plane fits all program to supply the U.S. Air Force with a fighter, the Navy version that can perform carrier landings for fleet defense and a Marine Vertical Take-off and landing for close air support of ground forces.
The initial order was for 2,400 or so copies with an initial delivery date of 2015.

So, go live there! No. Just kidding. That's too simple. As is your comments.

There are so many variables that cause, good/bad economies. We had the same set up in the '80s and we were just fine. This recession will end (as soon as Jimmy Carter is out of office), and the allusion to not having Universal Healthcare causing the great ills will go by the wayside much like Al Gore's Inconvenient Storytelling.

The fact is - the whole uninsured thing is pure fallacy. We did have universal health coverage. The only difference is its called indigent care. Certainly not ideal. But, folks are insured by the very definition of the word. ER's cannot turn away folks for financial reasons. Thus, others are paying for the care they receive (the def'n of insurance). But, it's a catch 22 - we can regulate the hell out of the health care industry and force certain coverages that folks simply can't afford, or we can go with European Universal Coverage and need to find another country that doesn't have it to go get our care when we are told to stand in line to get necessary tests and surgery.

Meanwhile, folks without health care coverage and no money are spending their last dime going to PJ20 when they could be paying for their own preventive visits (I realize that statement will not make me very popular around here). There's more than just our current structure that's messed up.

    erm...pj20 holds about 40,000 people...try again

actually most people going to pj20 have to have jobs, most likely with benefits. tickets aren't $50 or anything..
