I agree with much of this list, but Avacado should have made the cut. Crazy.

I wouldn't go that far. You don't need solo's.Member 164xxx

On a list that's missing Lateralus and Get Behind Me Satan, PJ slides a few down on my list of complaints. I'd personally put Binaural over anything else. The only album I think RS woulda had is BS. Also, I know it was 72 albums and they couldn't include them all, but the initial official bootleg release could very well warrant a spot.
Of course I would make a vastly different top 100, but I can usually see why most of their lists consist of the bands/artists that they choose. That list does seem to lean on some pretty non-top100-y type music. There's just some albums that I don't think deserve it even by RS standards.0 -
3 kanye west albums,no pj give me a break.0

this mag blows my mind...they always give pj great pub and great reviews but every single top 100, 50 or top 500 list they come up with are usually absurd...And dont get me wrong, Nirvana is/was a great band but its clear that Kurt passing away gives them a pass cause every list ive every seen has them always listed above pj and it doesnt make a lot of sense...look at the #'s...Foo Fighters have sold what 2 to 3 times the music that nirvana has ever sold...0
-
You gave to consider the source - what makes RS so frustrating (I was 'gifted' the mag for a year a few years back) is that they try to be all things to all people with the biggest goal to be 'Cool.' I dont know what Cool is -- I listen to the same 10 bands over and over to the point of obsession -- but I am pretty sure I know what Cool ISNT. (RS)
Scanned the Top 500 Albums of all time, there was a link to the right of the Albums of the 00s list. They have ACDC Back in Black at 73. The Who's Tommy @ 96. Black Sabbath's Paranoid at 130! The perspective placing those bands in those slots with those masterpieces.....certainly not any perspective I can relate to.
Further down they have Pavement's Slanted & Enchanted at 134. I LOVE Pavement -- saw them again last year at the Hollywood Bowl and it was the best show I saw all year. (Sonic Youth opened!) However, there is no way Pavement places in front of PJ. Again -- perspective. Pavement was 'quirky/cool' while PJ was once the most popular band in the world.
Ten appears to be the highest finishing album for PJ @ #207 on RS' Top 500 Albums of All Time.
Perspective?
Pearl Jam is my favorite band of course - but this list made me think -- without repeating artists, what would my top 10 look like?
My Favorite/Most Played Albums of all Time (wouldnt be such a douche as to say 'Best')
1. ACDC Back in Black (I have purchased this repeatedly over the years - pre digital I would say 10x)
2. The Doors - The Doors
3. Pearl Jam - Ten
4. The Who -- Tommy
5. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
6. Led Zep - IV
7. Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits, 74-78
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers -- Blood Sugar Sex Magic
9. Nirvana - Bleach
10. Primus - Suck on ThisThe love he receives is the love that is saved0 -
Rolling Stone gives Yoko Ono 5 stars on every album.

Just looking at the top 10 i agree with four of them and would have four of thme in mine.
I did not look at the entire list but Lateralius is a big oversight in my opinion.
It is kind of odd no pj made the list but whateverCharlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -
i'm so happy i found someone who gets that upset over nirvana being in every list. every time i see his stupid moody face on a list (usually top 20 if not top 10 of something asinine like "best guitarist". UGH) it makes me go on an hour long rant about how their music isn't that great and not technically good and the only thing he did was popularize a music movement that lasted 5 years. UGH I'M SO ANGRY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!!Grandmas Jam wrote:

I couldn't agree more. I appreciate Nirvana for what they did and am a fan of a lot of their music. But let's be honest. If Kurt hadn't died so tragically do you think they would be topping these lists all the time? Nope.WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -

Not even close. Hell, it's not even Dave Grohl's best contribution.0 -

That brings up a good question -- what was your favorite album of 00s?
I'd vote for Backspacer - followed closely by The Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am Thats What I Am Not.The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -
I dunno if I could pick a definitive #1, or even a top 5.
Tool-Lateralus
Binaural
Dr. Dog-Fate
Raconteurs-Consolers of the Lonely
MMJ-Z
I feel bad now. I think there's prolly 30 more that I could swap in and be just as satisfied.0 -

Good stuff...Kinduva mix between Abbey Road Beatles and The Band.
The follow up Shame, Shame is a pretty solid effort too.0
