getting interesting. yesterday "sources" were saying just the bosstones/murphys. where there is smoke there is fire, remaining cautiously optimistic here..

Ed mentioned at his Boston show something to the effect that the band would return to play Boston "next year".

    seemed quite certain if it..

it would be odd to me if there was a sudden scramble now fir a Fenway date but I am by NO means complaining..
just analyzing what has been in the rumor mill for fans in new England since Ed first suggested it on 7/11/03!

They mentioned Paul McCartney in another article and how it is unlikely to be him. It is certain that Dropkick murphys will be playing from several sources. Other sources also have the Bosstones and Pearl Jam as well.

With the gap between shows in Pearl Jam's current tour I would say it makes sense, but to cross boarders twice in that amount of time is also a pain in the rear. Hope it is true.

Pearl Jam is a longshot for sure but I don't think McCartney is a likely scenario. He has no shows scheduled after August 4th. Unless he is planning a whole second leg of his tour he will have been off the road for more than a month.

I really can't see for the most part the fans of the Dropkick Murphys and the Bosstones playing well with PJ fans.

I'm not very hopeful it's PJ, but them crossing the border twice in a week isn't that crazy considering they played shows in the UK, Canada and the US in a 6 day span in 2009.

The only reason they didn't think it was McCartney is b/c he played there within the last few years. As PJ fans talking about a show in Boston it's kinda silly to go with that line of reasoning. Macca coulda played there yesterday and if there's a show announced for tonight it would sell well.

I think the gap in the schedule is for promotion of the PJ20 film at the Toronto Film Fest.

I'd fly to Boston for a Pearl Jam show - tour the town through it's coffeehouses. Yay! Go, Pearl Jam, Go! Go, Pearl Jam, Go! Yay for rumours, yippee yippee yay! :)

Bingo. They made it pretty clear that there were no other US dates this year, and with the film coming out they'll be on Toronto for that weekend's film festival.

If they did play in Boston wouldn't this have been false advertising then? It's not like they said only "scheduled" US Tour dates, it flat out says only US Tour dates.

  • Lastyear DMB promoted a whole year for CITI FIELD. They did not come close to selling out. DMB in most opinions are bigger then PEARL JAM.....media as well. Now I know on these boards PJ dominates, BUT 1 out of 5 people know DMB before PJ. With this in mind, and as big as DMB is with years full of promotion they didnt sell out CITI FIELD.....Do you really think PJ will pack out Fenway in 3 months??? really??? really???

If it's a PJ20 for the East Coast, with Dropkicks and Bosstones as the supporting act with PJ in the main event, it will be packed. Keep in mind the hardcores from NH, Maine, Nova Scotia, Montreal, NY, NJ, RI, CT, Boston and PA. That's 25,000 easy. Don't forget Ed has said in the past it would be for something big to play Fenway. Well, um, it's the 20-year anny. Sounds big.

On a related note, here is the Bosstones twitter feed in case they pull a Mudhoney and release info:
