Anyone a fan?

I keep hearing about how these guys are so innovative, and that bands like Radiohead are huge fans.

  • They are, awesome band & amazing live if you ever get the chance. They have four albums, all are superb but the latest is something else & thats where I'd recomend a newcomer to start, the albums called the seldom seen kid.

Check em out on myspace for a taste without investing in an album.

Extremely underrated band. I guess I see a bit of a comparison to Radiohead in terms of atmospherics, but don't consider them Radiohead-lite, as some people do to Coldplay and Muse. Elbow have great songwriting chops, and they seem directly influenced by Talk Talk's last two albums, especially on Asleep in the Back, the group's debut album. They love to use gospel choirs but it never comes off as cheesy; instead, they use them as a way to release tension (check out "Ribcage," the opening song on Cast of Thousands). Their last album, The Seldom Seen Kid, is their most emotional record yet, and it almost has a jazzy feel to it. Also, Guy Garvey could sing his ass off.

    Great band.

I've got Seldom Seen Kid, and I really like it, keep meaning to get earlier ones but haven't got around to it. Great band.

Spectacular band!!! I have Leaders of the Free World & The Seldom Seen Kid, the latter being my favorite & a really amazing album in general! Grounds for Divorce, The Bones of You & One Day Like This are my favorites off of it :)

I'd probably go for leaders of the free world next, thats the one before SSK. I love all their albums but think the latest ones are the more accessible to a newcomer.

They are coming to Boston in September and playing the Paradise rock club. The venue is super small (can't hold more than 1000 people). Don't these guys play arenas overseas???

Seems like this is a unique opportunity to see a huge band in an intimate venue. Anyone seen them live??

Asleep in the Back is all I have. Got it when it came out and it's been a classic album to me ever since. For some reason, though, never stuck it out with Elbow. I'll need to pick up their other albums.
  • CAST OF THOUSANDS!!! "Fallen Angel" was the first track I ever heard from these dudes, and it instantly made me a fan. "Not a job" and "fugitive motel" are amazing as well.

Great band. new album is good. I've been playing it for a week now. It reminds me more of Asleep era Elbow. Maybe with a bit of Build a Rocket Boys.

IMO, Cast of Thousands is their best.

I literally JUST learned about this band yesterday! I was in my local record store and overheard "My Sad Captains" played in the store… Immediately asked the guy behind the counter "who is this?!" Dude held out the CD and said, "Just came out last week… I highly recommend it… We've been playing it non-stop in here and everyone comes to the counter asking about the song that's playing."

I bought the CD right there and I've been listening to it all day today… I'm so fucking impressed!

Bummed they won't be touring anywhere near AZ, but I'd almost consider getting on a plane to catch them in Chicago or MN…!!

  • Love Elbow, love Guy Garvey. I wish they were as popular over here as they are in Europe because maybe they'd tour America more often. I saw them once in Atlanta many years ago.

Quality band, first heard them when their debut album came out while living in the U.K. around 2001, their first single was Any Day Now, still my fave Elbow track, such a cool, understated, brooding vibe. They have so many good albums and Guy Garvey has one of the best voices I've ever heard. Will definitely check out their new record..
