Corduroy Connection

Earlier today, I was talking with my step-daughter about a writing exercise involving listening to music and writing whatever comes to mind. This evening I was playing my acoustic and she began to write. When I started to play my instrumental-only version of Corduroy, a song she had (amazingly enough) never heard she began that segment of her writing with this:

"This song feels like waiting, anticipating."

I later told her, "You know, the opening line to that song is, 'The waiting drove me mad'."

Coincidence? No, we just had it dialed in.

    Yeah - the opening to Corduroy has a hell of a lot of tension in it

    Yeah, you're right. I remember when they played it here in Chile in 2005, right after the opening song, Release. The audience started jumping and chanting to the intro riff, definetely waiting for the party to start.

    What happened next is history.

    I can remember listening to this song when the album came out and thinking 'woah!' Such a powerful message - so relevant to how much frenzy there was around the band and Eddie at this time - I think it was a really pivotal song in how the band when on to develop - drawing some boundaries and telling it like it is.

    When ever I'm waiting for someone or something and it's taking forever, "The waiting drove me mad, you're finally here and I'm a mess" always plays in my head :lol:

    agree with tremors - the opening of corduroy does have that build up of tension and urgency.

    I know what you mean about "meant to happen". That must be the magic part of music- the thing you can't make happen- the muse taking over. And it's a really great feeling that's hard to describe!
