Instant fan here!
Can't Keep is a great opener too. The first time I heard it was on the Benaroya Hall album and loved it then!
Sure yuke tunes aren't for everybody, but certainly are for me. It's sun-setting (or rising) kayak on the lake fishing rod in hand life is beautiful kinda stuff. Quite special.
I find this forum a bit irritating. I think it is because of the "squeeky wheel" mentality.
the ones of us who found this album enjoyable or were simply just impartial posted our opinions in established threads. I'm by no means forum police and you're obviously allowed to do whatever you choose, but why the new thread?
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

why? you have just lost your time to be forum police:) the reason i started new topic and why i always will, is because i can never find topic easily on the forum main site. too long to find, to much hassle. dont want to reply to new topic - simply dont. period. no need to get irritated.
take it easy. peace.

I've been a PJ fan and EV fan for a long time and this album just doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's these videos with Eddie in a sport coat that soured me on the whole concept.
I'll always be a PJ fan....but I hope this overly sappy love song phase passes quickly.
I wish i knew how to say what i wanted using less words and spending less time, Master Joda!:)))))

It's a perfect album to play on the deck for me this summer while I strum my ukulele along with Ed!!!!!
I'm with RM22. I spend the summers at my mountain cabin with my guitar and uke, and now I even get a songbook with all the lyrics and chords to learn on the uke! What is better than that?
Maybe you need to be an old guy who plays stringed instruments to like it

That's possible. I fit that criteria. hahahahahaha
I find it annoying that people find it annoying :P . C'mon, the album is titled "Ukulele Songs"....what are you expecting from it? The title is like the "Explicit Lyrics" tags on albums....I just don't see buying something like that and then complaining when someone says 'fuck'. I appreciate the fact that Ed has the cahones to serve up an album constructed w/n the boundaries created by a limited instrument. I'm on listen #3 and am digging the hushed, intimate, melodic tunes he created. It conjures up images of seeing Ed play solo, particularly when he breaks out the uke. The dude is starting to sniff 50, is happily married and has young kids; all that to say I love where the formal release of this album fits neatly into the current stratosphere of his life. Kudos eV. Thanks for releasing the new tunes into the world !

Yes there is a woman, and what happens when the sun goes down is for me to know!
I love the record, but it is a lot of love songs. Might not be some people's cup of tea. I think I would like just about anything that Eddie does. I just love his voice and I think this album puts up front.
But maybe if he made an album like Chris Cornell's Scream, maybe I might not like that.
When FASCISM Comes To America
it will be wrapped in the FLAG and
carrying a CROSS.

oh, good Lord. Thank God we don't have to deal with that kind of thing. Yes, we've got helicopter-shot videos, and suit-and-tie photo shoots for an album full of happy, wistful love songs - but I will take that ANY day over a Timbaland-produced album, or a duet with Pink, or an appearance on Idol, an attempt to write a musical about a superhero (sorry Bono) etc, etc...
Changing with age, yes. But still graceful.
I personally like the Uke Songs album a lot. I liked ITW a lot too - but then again, I'm always gravitating to songs like Fatal, Off He Goes, Dead Man Walking, and a lot of the mellow songs, so it wasn't a huge stretch for me -

I have to say I am very disappointed in this album. I don't like it at all. I am a big Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder fan, they are my favorite band, seen them 43 times and seeing them 10 times on this upcoming tour so I am not trying to be a hater but a just don't like this album at all. There is a rumor going around that he will only play mostly this album on this tour and if he does I will sell both of my Beacon show tix.

I had no interest in it at all. Then for some reason a week or so ago my interest spiked. right now Im back where I started. I previewed a few songs on itunes and heard a few full ones and didnt really like any of it.
you are entitled to your opinion. your post is well thought out and well said. but next time maybe just title a thread a bit more respectfully to the artist, that's all.

i have all the solo stuff and out of them i play into the wild the most..then the three fish albums ..you need to be in the correct mood to listen to three fish..but they are good..just not pj...but they are not meant to be..
bayleaf has not been played for years or jeffs solo stuff..even tres mtn got a few plays and is now put away..
as for Brad its more about shawn smiths great voice then stone..so i look at them as a different band not a pearl jam side project.
but wew could do with a mike solo album btw
I have all the solo stuff, side projects, etc. And the best of all of them was actually Mike's...in Mad Season. But then, I was (and will remain forever) a huge Layne Staley fan...so that helps too. If Layne had been able to get it and keep it together, Mad Season would have had real potential, IMO. I probably play Mad Season's "Above" more than any of the PJ members other individual/side project stuff...then next would probably come Into The Wild.
I do play Mother Love Bone stuff with regularity, however....and Green River as well (although slightly less so than MLB). And Temple of the Dog is still in rotation too.
But none of it approaches the standard set by the members of this band working together on a PJ album. There is a synergy there that I just don't thing can be duplicated. I think the side projects are interesting diversions for them...and for the hard core fans. But I don't think even the band members expect those records to be as popular as the PJ releases.
i listened to it 3x and finally got this album. maybe because i've been to hawaii or the maldives but i tell you..this album just brings me back to those places. growing up on the jersey shore and surfing for the past 20 years i kind of just get it. it really is an amazing album. i don't play uke (been playing guitar for 16 years) but i tell yeah, if you listen closely, every song is really different and the lyrics are just amazing. i think many of you will get it after a few listens. uke songs brings me back to the beach and into the wild bring me to the mountains and wide open spaces. cheers to both!
Eh, I sort of (emphasis on SORT OF) agree with the OP.
Huge PJ and Vedder fan. I also love when he tinkers with the uke once or twice a show.
But as an album, I can't listen to this straight through. A few tracks and I'm golden. Then I'll come back again later. It's pleasant stuff, but only in small doses, in my humble and mostly meaningless opinion.
I have to say I am very disappointed in this album. I don't like it at all. It stands to reason that he'll play alot from this album on the tour but to sell your tickets because you don't like the album...... He's still going to play ITW and PJ songs and what other gems he throws out there!!! Maybe after the show you will find a new love for songs from this album?
I can't comment on whether I like the album or not yet, I have the download from 10C but I'm waiting til the cd arrives in the post before listening to it
He didn't call Eddie an arsehole. He said the album is anoying. Which to him and others, me included, it is.
Gotta agree..."simply annoying" isn't offensive at all. If someone started a thread called "Creed - simply annoying" or "Justin Bieber - simply annoying" I'm pretty sure no-one would say the title of the thread is annoying!!!!

Got the album today. Its not annoying but I can see where the OP comes from.
1st listen, I lost interest halfway through and got a bit bored. Can't Keep & Longing To Belong standout but thats probably because I've heard them alot. LTB I adore to be honest.
2nd listen, its better. My concentration span holds longer.
Its definitely a grower of an album for me
