    "the wisdom that the old can't give away"

    instead of lamenting that these kids don't know anything maybe you should have mentioned who he was and suggest a song you think they might like. maybe suggest a song that might speak to their age group. definitely something from Ten or Vs. were written from a perspective of that age group. Maybe a Leash, Porch, RearViewMirror. just maybe say something like 'oh he is the lead singer of Pearl Jam, you should check out a few of their songs, maybe a song like Leash or Porch from their early days.' don't beat them up for their not knowing and don't try and force them to like it, but give a suggestion. maybe one checks it out on Itunes and likes it and starts to explore more from the boys.

    remember not everyone gets exposed to the same art. all we can do is give someone a hint and suggestion to take a look and maybe they will like it or not. if you've never seen a painting from a famous artist you can't be sure you don't like it.

    Great! that means PJ are not corporate branded well-packaged household-name trash like U2. I'm sure all those kids know who Bono is and they haven't made a good album in 20 years. This post gives me some hope that we are still cool, even if some of us are getting old.

    My 19 year old daughter linked these 2 videos on her Facebook page in the past 2 days. Some of them get it. I am proud as can be that my daughter can see through the shit and understand what is really going on.

    I was about to disagree and point out that Achtung Baby was an awesome album... and then I thought about how long ago it was released. 1991 really doesn't seem that long ago, but it's 20 freaking years! Zooropa was the last U2 album I really liked, and even that was released 18 years ago.

    Damn I feel old.
    And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

    Sometimes I feel the same way, that the youth today is lost. But then there are great moments when a 14 year old kid calls me up to take lessons and says, "I'm really into the early 90's stuff, like, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains"

    Makes me smile, all the time! :)

    This makes me feel sad. :( It makes me feel old, too. But don't worry about it; many youngER people do know who they are, and the whole scene is different now than it was back then. Times, they change, always, as we all know. But, hey, I wasn't even alive when Led Zeppelin was popular or when Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison were making music, but I have been listening to them my whole life. Pearl Jam will live on forever like that. Some people will get it, some won't. We're the lucky ones. We were THERE dude!! :lol::lol:

    Yup...my plan too. The Who and Neil Young have cropped up as a couple of my 9 year-old son's "new" favorites as a result.

    Let me tell you kids about the first time I saw Pearl Jam. I had to walk to the concert uphill, in the snow, with no shoes on. Now lookie-here, back then Pearl Jam only cost a nickel....

    The "Classic Rock" like the Eagles, Rolling Stones, Who, and all that??? They're now considered "Oldies."

    I think the "real" oldies is now something like "Golden Oldies."

    Oldies is a term commonly used to describe a radio format that concentrates on music from a period of about 15 to 55 years before the present day.

    True story...when I was in college, the dormitory was on one hill, and the academic buildings were on another hill separated by a valley.

    So yes, I did have to walk uphill both ways.
