Who did you introduce Pearl Jam to?

    I subject everyone I know to my obsession…its all PJ, all the time when you hang with me :)

    The one that really surprised me was my mother, and this was very recent. She was over for dinner, and we were going to watch a movie from red box. I put in the DVD, and the sound was not working. I tried everything to figure out why, and she says “put in another DVD to see if something is wrong with the redbox one or if its your tv”. Brilliant idea! So of course I grab the closest DVD I have, Immagine in Cornice (which I had just watched as part of a PJ marathon the day before). I pop it in, and it works. I decide to straighten up the kitchen while she goes on Netflix to find something we can watch streaming since the redbox dvd obviously was jacked, and all of a sudden I hear her turn the TV up. I go in the front room, and my mom is JAMMING OUT. We scrapped the Netflix idea and we watched all of Immagine, then Touring Band 2000….she had a lot of questions and I told her stories I knew about particular songs and I suddenly realized it was like midnight. She has a crush on Stone.... :)

    The next day I made her up flash drive full of PJ stuff, and some Ed solo stuff. She has already asked to be put on the top of my stand-by list if either of the people attending the Eddie solo shows with me in Chicago can’t go at the last minute (I’m going both nights).
    My mom is the coolest :D
    Makes much more sense...

    I remember the day I was introduced to PJ very well. A friend who was into his music passed me the Vs CD and a RATM CD on the day I wrenched my knee playing soccer. The opening riff blew my mind and I was hooked.

    In turn I've shared my love of PJ with my friends and family and was SO proud when my son chose to come with my wife to see them live a couple of yrs back.
    After the song (Even Flow) Eddie Vedder said, “We have to play that song every night otherwise Mike McCready will f*cking kill somebody”

    When I was in high school I played ten every morning while getting ready, and on the way to school in the car. My brother and sister were less than pleased. By 2000 my brother had warmed up to Pj after almost a decade of listening to them through me, and I took him to his first show. He hasn't missed a tour since :D

    I introduced PJ to a friend of mine around 2006. He was around 57-58, and just retired from teaching(middle school).One day we went to Tower Records when they were getting ready to close down for good. So, were just looking around and he asked me what PJ disc would i suggest, and i went and get him Benny Hall. I told him it was a acustic show and he seem surprised(he thought they were just Grunge). I don't think it was but a day or two when he gets back to me, and tells me he really digs Benny Hall, and he wants me to burn him some more PJ. I just burn him every album(Lost Dogs too). He digs every album, and especially likes No Code. I knew he was hooked then, but i told him you have to come to a show with me. Wait until you see them live, you'll really be HOOKED then, and he was. He's been to shows with me in Virginia, Wash. D.C. N.Y.(MSG) and a couple of Philly shows too.

    Oh yea, he was able to get Eddie tickets for us(when i couldn't be around for pre-sale or public sale), in Philly at the Tower. This will be the third time we'll be seeing Eddie(Baltimore & Newark were the other 2).

    I don't know if I've ever introduced anybody to Pearl Jam. Maybe played them a few songs they hadn't heard, but not introduced them to the band entirely. I mean, everybody my age knew who Pearl Jam was, they were the biggest thing around back when we were teenagers. Now quite a few of them aren't familiar with most of their post-Vitalogy work, and I've introduced them to some of their other stuff. Some people aren't even aware that they're still around. I've ran into several, including my older cousin who was a big Pearl Jam fan in the early 90's. Around the time of the Riot Act tour he was in my car and I had one of the new bootlegs playing, and he asked me what it was, I told him it was a Pearl Jam concert from a few weeks earlier and he was shocked and asked "they're still around?".

    The only people that I would need to introduce them to would either be quite a bit older or younger, and other than my parents and an infant nephew I don't really hang out with many people outside my age group. Maybe when the nephew gets a little older I'll introduce him.

    To my mom...I played it so much last year when she came over to visit, she ordered Rearview Mirror when she got home :D

    To my kids...they can spot Ed's voice anywhere....REM Man in the Moon with Ed...my son declares that it's Eddie Vedder but that isn't one of HIS songs!!!! :D:D

    I dragged him to a show in the pouring rain and we had a blast!

    My husband, brother, and kids.

    My hubby is not hugely into music but I took him to his first ever concert (PJ Auckland Nov 09) and he was blown away. My brother used to always steal my CD's as a teenager. My kids love to dance around the living room to Backspacer.

    I find it very difficult to introduce PJ to the younger generation. My nieces and nephews are very set in their ways musically and don't really seem to open up to "old" stuff like Pearl Jam.
    Do people have any tips on spreading the Jam? especially to Gen Y

    Back in '93 I remember Spin Doctors 'Two Princes'. And I absolutely loved it. Became a massive Spin Doctors fan Still am. Somehow kinda missed the whole Pearl Jam thing. In '95 found Oasis and got into the Britpop scene. Remember seeing Yield in my local store and picking it up. But passed and put it back down. In '98/'99 started going to pubs and met some new friends (through a friend from school). One friend (who became my best friend - 9 days between us in age) was a huge PJ fan. All my friends were PJ but this one, was just more. He kept trying to get me into PJ and I was having none of it - still into Britpop. Plus I prefered Nirvana and thought you couldn't like PJ AND Nirvana. Dumb I know.

    Any in '99 I relented and started buying PJ albums. Best. Thing. I. Ever. Did.

    Wow, literally my life changed. They announced a UK tour in '00 and 30 of us went. Amazing. And since, well the rest is history as they say. Been a fan since then. Sometime between Riot Act and Avocado I became obsessive. Not anywhere near the level I am right now. The only other band who come close to my PJ obsession is Brand New. Like PJ, they are something special.

    I took my 18 year old brother to see PJ in Manchester 2009. Great gig, he enjoyed it but enjoys other bands like Bullet For My Valentine and that genre more. The following Xmas I bought him the Manchester bootleg as a Xmas present. I thought that would be a cool pressie and so did my wife. When my bro opened his present, he looked so unimpressed, like he would have preferred money. I was so disappointed. So last Xmas and birthday I got him money. Future Xmas' I will do the same!!!

    My kids who are 5 and 8. My 5 year old especially loves PJ. She can pick Eddie's voice out without a second thought about it. For instance, we were at a place eating lunch one day and PJ came on over the intercom system. She yells, "MOMMY! It's Eddie Vedder!!!!" Everyone within earshot turned and looked at us. I just smiled and said "what can I say, my kid knows good music when she hears it." :lol::lol:
