If you had to Groundhog Day one year of PJ20

...which would it be?.

I'd pick 1998. The band toured in support of my favorite album Yield. I loved (not liked) every previous album so there was not a song on tour i wouldnt love. MSG 9-11-98 happened. A lot of bad shit like 9-11 and recessions wasnt in the world yet and personally, I was in my late 20s just livin large and lovin PJ.

Curious if any one PJ20 year is one you wouldnt mind getting stuck in over and over again.

  • Cool idea! I'd say 1996. Basically for the same reasons but I was younger and that was my first concert at Randal's Island. Being in college with drugs chicks and rock n roll a plenty! No Code, new! Awesomeness.
  • I'd have to say '98 too. Not only was it the year of my first concert (I'd do anything to experience it at this age, as opposed to an oblivious 6 year old), but Yield is one of my favorites. Plus there's just a special, unexplainable feeling that goes along with that time period--at least in my opinion. And, like you said, not only would you get to see the songs from that album for the first time live and for the first time, but lots of greats from the previous albums as well. Win-win.
Hm, and another thing...Eddie looked pretty dapper then too. Win-win-win, I think.

As far as repeating my best PJ-related day over and over again (and being able to change things over every time to see what happens - I might try to breach the barrier and get backstage once or twice, it won't have any consequences right? ;) ), I'd say August 15, 2009 - the day of the Berlin show.

    or

Go back to the day where I foolishly decides not to go to Berlin 2010, which I've regretted ever since. (Although that would be a Back to the Future type of thing rather than Groundhog day - but hey, I love that DeLorean.)

Only now I've noticed you said "year", not "day"... I'd probably go with 2010, then, and try to do the whole Euro tour this time around.

    Absolutely 1992;

They established their amazing live performance reputation based on those European shows that Winter and again with those huge Summer European festivals in Early Summer. Then there were the legendary Lollapalooza shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sound Garden (including Temple Of the Dog performances at some shows), ICe Cube, Ice T, STP, Rage Against the Machine etc..

And let's not forget in 1992 MTV actually played videos, and lots of Pearl Jam videos. I was a Junior in High School in 1992, I remember how popular Pearl Jam became that year. The Evenflow video and Jeremy video in particular were in heavy rotation on MTV, as was Hunger Strike.

1992 was also the year they made their first SNL appearance, and the "Drop in the Park" concert. It was also their first year playing the Bridge School benefit. And Un-plugged.

The best year Pearl Jam has had in their career is absolutely 1992, while people here have selected other years for their own personal reasons, 1992 is the only year one could pick if personal preferences were removed.

1992 is the year magic happened to Pearl Jam, I remember that year well as a 17 year old.

A lot of the newer fans really cannot appreciate what Pearl Jam and music was in 1992, for example my Senior year was 1993. I remember the day Vs. came out, it seemed like anyone with a car cut out of school that day at 10:00am to go to the mall and buy Vs. the day it was released.

  • I'd have to say 96. My first PJ concert, 2 days after my 20th birthday and No Code, which is by far my most favorite PJ album. Great year to be a Pearl Jam fan.
  • I'm going with 1994. Vitalogy was released late in the year, and I got the third disc of the Live in Atlanta album!

1990/1991. I would've really liked to have seen Mookie Blaylock in their early days. Or to see Pearl Jam opening for bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. A close second would be their 2005/2006 Gorge shows.

1998. It was my Senior year of HS, Yield came out, went to my first PJ concert that summer (I should have hitched a ride up there with Rodman) and Yield was constantly playing on my CD player. Not a bad time. Plus LOTL came out that year, that was a big deal back in the days before official bootlegs. The only live Pearl Jam I owned until then was that Free World: Live In USA '92-'93 bootleg, which was pretty rough. Plus there was a lot of awesome non-PJ related stuff going on that year for me, and lots of graduation money rolling in to do it with.

Bonnaroo. Hands down. Best day and night.....

Can't beat great weather in a huge field dancing to Pearl Jam that was up on that stage kickin it.

Had my best friends with me, the perfect buzz going and they played a Porch that blew my little mind.

Haha, and Kayne was after 12 am, so wouldn't have to deal with all his shit again :D
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!
