Great day today. Got an email from our local beer/wine store and they finally, finally got the three cases of Alexander Keith's that I ordered. Took me 6 years. Ever since touring the brewery in Halifax when I was there to see Pearl Jam in 2005. Finally, I've been able to get some.

And then I saw this posted:

http://providence.craigslist.org/tid/2337243403.html

Good thing I have beer! And I didn't know Pearl Jam was touring in June?

Peace!

I didn't realize Keith's was that hard to find.

As a Canadian, its one of the few Canadian beers I'm willing to drink. We as Canadians take pride in our beer, but its because we usually compare it to US beer, which its obviously better than. However I find most European beers to be considerably better. (Boddington's, Guiness, Stella, Heineken, Amstel.. etc..).

but yah Keith's is one of the better beers we have here in Canada, it never occured to me someone who have difficulty finding some.

We have some good beers down here in the States, but it's a matter of taste I suppose. But usually when people talk about American Beers they just mean the big brands like Bud and Coors which I wouldn't even give my dog. Personally I usually only drink Shiner Bock, which is a beer brewed in Texas since the early 1900's, it's a Bavarian style beer created by a German brewmaster who moved to Texas back in the day because he thought the climate would be better for his health. They make more than just the bock, they make a wheat beer and some other stuff. I like some imports though, like Paulaner and Newcastle.

A Keiths is extremely average. It is better than US swill, but nowhere near as good as US or Canadian Microbrewed stuff.

have you ever gone on a tour of the brewery? that is a lot of fun and the tour ends up in the bar with plenty of samples. My ex is from Pottsville and her family's church is right next to the brewery, I used to joke about piping in beer to the church basement.

I htink most non-Americans think "American Beer" means Budweiser, Miller or Coors. Yes, those are the big three that are advertised, but anyone who really appreciates beer drinks other stuff. The US has a lot of Micro Breweries, most of which are better than the big three.

My Favorite beer in all is Guinness, and there has rarely been one to rival it. But a local brewery near me has come pretty close.

But if you visit the US, skip the big three and go to a microbew pub.

    Ha, yeah I'll buy that.

Although I have had my share of crap from microbrews, too.

Living in Colorado I am always shocked by visitors wanting to vist the Coors or Bud breweries.

I always tell them that there are 40 micro-breweries and brewpubs within an hour of my house so why bother with the multi-national crap?

    So we go here....

Decent beer...but over-rated...way better beers in your neck of the woods.

I like going on the Big Brewery tours still. Like seeing the packing lines, etc. And I'll drink their crap from time to time and even enjoy it. But you are right, if time is limited, plenty of better places to go if you are just looking for beer. Not too many cooler places to go if you want to see sweet ass high speed bottling/canning lines!

I just started gettin into better quality beer. I always drank Budweiser, which I still love  but I realized I don't buy a ton of it, so why not drink stuff that's at least a little better. We have a pretty limited selection, but we get some better stuff....Some of my favorites so far

    Newcastle
    Trout Slayer(Missoula, MT)
Sam Adams Octoberfest, Summer/Winter Ale, Pale Ale
Blue Moon, just got a summer variety pack that's pretty tasty
    Goose Island 312

Don't feel bad. In high school I used to drink Milwaukee's Best a.k.a. The Beast. Not because it was good (it wasn't), but because you could buy a 12 pack for like $5.

haha, reminds me of Blatz which we could get for $5 a case back in college when all we were after was volume for the price.
