Seriously - there is no way this is a GA show. They aren't going to put anyone in physical danger which is why there are no longer US GA shows. Pearl jam pits are brutal, brutal places. The Jones Beach pit made Pantera @ Nassau look like a joke. I hesitate to use the term pit as well because it just turns into a mad push for the stage with crowd surfers flying all over.
There was a 2000 tour - Pearl Jam Jones Beach pit?

My bad Randalls Island 96 - I'm from NJ & get two venues confused. Apologies

I agree then. The Randall's Island Pit was vicious and I was a lot younger then. I just avoid them altogether with larger bands.

    Hi-
Just saying- my intention wasn't to put you down.
    :)
I went to all 3 Jones Beach shows, and the wind and water ate up all the sound, I don't like that venue.
I wish I went to the Randalls Island shows- I was away at college in bumblef*ck at the time...

For real! People are speculating and driving themselves insane, and for what? To still get nowhere with a dead-end discussion, that's what.

It's probably the biggest thing going on in the little world of Pearl Jam right now, so I would expect some speculation .. and this is a discussion board/ forum. Seems the right place for a discussion of ideas and opinions, even if some see them as dead-end.

I want some tickets :? , anyone have any yet ?............... ..............

I'd have to say that both the band and the crowd are very different than when they played Randall's Island in 96. Everybody is getting freakin' old. Back to the original topic of the thread, GA seems like the only thing that would make a festival logistically possible and "fair" for everyone that will be attending.

The good news is that 3/4 of Alpine Valley is GA. And since when has this weekend bash become a festival?

Touché... but I was thinking completely GA, with no assigned seating/standing area.

IF the ticket price for the weekend is a single price, then a GA show would be the only fair way for everyone have somewhat equal access to the stage. I'm sure no one would be very happy paying the same price for a lawn seat, as the person who is sitting under the pavillion in the first row. With that being said, I don't know if people would be willing to travel large distances (even with scaled ticket prices) and sit in the lawn for a prolonged period of time.

and the festival thing was a quote from Jeff. Right?

    Festival
    NOUN:

An occasion for feasting or celebration, especially a day or time of religious significance that recurs at regular intervals.
An often regularly recurring program of cultural performances, exhibitions, or competitions: a film festival.
    Revelry; conviviality.

    PJ20 fits this pretty well.

    synonyms
Joyful, exuberant activity: conviviality, festiveness, festivity, fun, gaiety, jollity, merriment, merrymaking, revel (often used in plural), revelry. See laughter

I think we all have certain expectations of what a music festival is about. Although I do love garlic.

I forgot which night, but right after the parking lot filled up and pregaming was in full swing, the wind kicked up and in a matter of minutes there were flying ants everywhere. Some people dealt with it, others (me) sat in our car until the temps dropped and the ants subsided right around sundown. For a while it was a bit Hitchcockian

I guess that's why they say that life isn't fair.
