To learn the perfect song Mr. Mikey McCready pulled from his brain......and play Last Soldier at the Wiltern this July....

It's a perfect song for a solo show...(trust me, I did three polls of my household of 1 and fifthrouple checked the math)..

In return for your handling the harmonica, guitar and lyrics, I will promise to not sing on that July evening...So, save the Wiltern from my singing.....

Challenge set. Ball is in your court. (Wiltern attendees and employees....it is in your best interest to support this...if this isn't played by song 7, it's on....I won't even warm up my voice and will let it fly with no concern for lyrical accuracy unti the show ends...and even afterward)

    I was hoping when I opened this it was going to be you challenging Ed to a vegetarian hot dog eating competition or at least a game of ping pong.

    Firstly, if you cut up two medium vegetarian hot dogs correctly, I can eat all 34 of them in 39 minutes.....so Ed is scared of that one....twelfth, ever since King Kong went to Hong Kong to play Ping Pong with his Ding Dong, I don't consider that an option.     Good luck. Recently in Sydneyhe said that he would never play a song solo that anyone else in the band wrote.

    he said (and this is paraphrased) 'Doing that would be like having their kids over to do the weeding'

    I don't know the full story, I've just seen the picture and didn't know what it was. I looked it up earlier and apparently it was from West Palm Beach, Florida in '98, and the caption said "Premier Pearl Jam Intra-Band Ping-Pong Challenge", it occurred during the show (not before or after), maybe during an encore break or something, I don't know. I wasn't there. I'm sure somebody around here could shed some more light on the subject.

    Sometimes Ed doesn't think things through well enough, and once I assist him, he sees he was totally misguided in his determinations. What he says now is that "[Matt, thanks again, you are right as usual] Playing a song as good as Last Soldier this July at the Wiltern, a song that only someone in this band could produce, is, is, is, is.....it's like taking care of one of my band members kids - it is the greatest honor in this experience known as Pearl Jam to have Mike trust me with one of his own...I will do it honor, and, besides...I don't back down from challenges...consider it done"

    Eddie texted something like that to me last night, but I was annoyed at how late he sent it, so I deleted it....
