i tried using the comparison of him and his best friend going to see their favorite band...but it's pink floyd and they've toured like once in the last 20 years. he says that makes it different because i get to see pearl jam every year.
i'm glad there are others who understand.0 -
pjruss wrote:No lie, I've been thinking about starting this exact thread for a while now-- every time my wife calls me "obsessed" or refers to eV as my " boyfriend".
One thing that makes me suspicious as to just how much she " doesn't" like PJ, is she's been to 8 shows with me and insisted on going to whichever show I chose for the upcoming eV tour, despite me saying I could easily find a board member to go with. Ironically, the time she wants to go is the first time I got shut out of tickets. Naturally, I blamed her, haha.
Great thread, it's fun to see I'm not alone!
Yeah man... I hear ya! She calls McCready my BF and she calls a guitar "riff" a "rift"... WTF! I suffer through American Idol and going to see bands like Plain White T's with her, that is the only way I get my PJ.St. Louis 07/02/98, St. Louis 10/11/00, New York 07/08/03, New York 07/09/03, Chicago 05/16/06, Chicago 05/17/06, Bridge School 10/21/06, Bridge School 10/22/06, Chicago 07/05/07, Chicago 07/24/09, Kansas City 05/03/10, St Louis 05/04/10, PJ20 09/03/11, PJ20 09/04/11, Chicago 07/19/13, St. Louis 10/03/14, Ohana 09/24/21 (EV/Earthings), Ohana 09/25/21 (EV/Earthlings), Ohana 09/26/21, Nashville 09/16/22, Louisville 09/17/22, St. Louis 09/18/22, Oklahoma City 09/20/220 -
My wife is not a huge fan, which I should have known, because she is much hotter than any girl you ever see at a PJ show.

Having a spouse that tolerates your interest in the band but doesn't want to tag along every time is the BEST situation. Nothing better than a roadtrip with the guys, or going by yourself and meeting up with friends from college in various cities around the country. Time apart is healthy!
What we really need is a support group for people who's careers are not PJ fanatics.0 -
This is sad....so I was watching a video of PJ doing "Off He Goes" at the 1999 Bridge School, and my girlfriend asks "who's that strange man singing that depressing song?". That upset me since Off He Goes is one of my favorite songs. As you could probably tell, she doesn't listen to Pearl Jam at all, mostly top 40 crap.Member Number: 437xxx

My wife has been to a few concerts with me. She likes pearl jam. But the other day I had to borrow her I pod and there wasnt any pearl jam on it. I think that speaks volumes. Weird cause shes been to around 10 shows. But nothing on the music player. Common......are you serious. Shes not like me. Or all of us for that matter who freak out when tickets go on sale, and listen to music up until the weeee hours of the night. I feel your pain people. But I also realize that I have it good compaired to someone who is with someone who thinks PJ blows. I dont think I could handle that. We could never talk music, and I mean NEVER. If this is you. Im so so sorry.0

I went to 3 EV solo shows alone and go to PJ concerts alone....My husband isnt interested, he said he will go with me (as he is worried other men will hit on me) little does he know every male at the show is only focussed on the band and wouldnt even notice a super model standing right next to them! lol
He came to one PJ show and agreed they were an awesome live band...but totally cramped my style...rolling his eyes at me and playing with his phone..i laughed at someone elses comment that thier wife said 'when are they ever going to stop playing' my husband said the excat same thing! so im happier on my own at these shows..
Would be nice to have a partner who was into similar music as you..i know lots of hubbies on here like the 'escape' and just go with the boys to the shows...I flew to the other side of Australia to see an Ed solo..would have been nice to have had someone to share that with.....
At home i have PJ blasting from living room and hubby has his top 40 BS blasting from the back end of the house...kinda funny really...needless to say i have the better sound system and kick top 40's asssssss

My husband doesn't dislike Pearl Jam and he's the one who actually bought Ten when it came out, but after that it was me that bought all the cds, albums, etc. I've taken him to a few concerts and he likes the music okay but he knew probably less then half the songs and usually just stands there! No fun
After two or three of those concerts I wised up and invited friends who were fans, not as much a fan as me, but way more fun! GNOs are the best! " I am no man!"

my wife is not a big pearl jam fan at all but she tolerates my obsession. I'm ok with that...if on the other hand I was married to someone who didn't understand it, didn't accept it, was jealous of it, thought it was stupid being such a big fan of a band/music...or absolutely hated pearl jam...that would suck. funny, probably wouldn't work out.0

The wife isn't a huge fan, more of casual appreciation. She also refers to EV as my boyfriend.
She did encouraged me to make the long treck to Toronto to see my 1st show...but then referred to us as a cult. She wans't able to make the Canadian tour in '05 so I got to hang some guys up from the States in Winnipeg and took my concert going Aunt in Thunder Bay.
After I left Backspacer in the car cd changer since its release she finally mentioned to me a few months ago, "that cd is actually pretty good". HA! Warms the heart it does.
I still have to mention that PJ20 is going to happen this year...wonder how that will go down

My husband likes PJ, but is not a huge fan. Typically, we do most things together, but for PJ, I go with friends or, more recently, I go with our kids. The best advice someone gave us when we got married (and she had 7 kids!) was #1 - never go to bed mad, and #2 - keep your own interests. (You bring more to the table if you stay true to who you are). In the long run, we realized we don't have to do everything together or like the same things to make it work, at least when it comes to music!0

I am in a similar situation. My wife puts up with my addiction and has actually grown to enjoy some of the music (mostly the slower songs, Into the Wild & hopefully the upcoming Uke album). But I have a lifetime to convert her. So I consider it my quest."Not only do you have sunshine but you have better thunder...fuckers." -Ed, Phx 10/21/00
