It is a cover of a song written by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, one of Hawaii's most famous musicians.
When Ed came to play Kokua Fest with Jack Johnson in 2007, the Honolulu Advertiser interviewed him as to why the band chose to play a song so famous and dear to local Hawaiian people back in 06. His response was that when you go hiking here in Hawaii, he can hear Iz playing from speakers in the trees.
Since then Hawaii 78 has been playing regularly on our radio stations, and has introduced all kinds of island people to the magic of PJ.0 -
A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.0 -

well put my island friend...i also like to hope that its introduced many PJammers to bruddah IZ...
i dig the part about the speakers in the trees...whenever i did the bamboo boogie or commando hikes i could hear IZ in the trees...hiking on the northern coast of maui is so gorgeous....(somethingaboutmary- yes my brother is still on the piper, stop by sometime and say hi, i'll write you when i get the panic print.)
seeing the OAHU show when this song was played was very special for me...Bruddah IZ was huge in hawaii, i had some local friends who really connected with him...i miss the islands very much...I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...0
