I know Springsteen aint everyones cup of tea. But damn the dude can write lyrics. Every few months I get on a big Springsteen kick and he is all I listen to for a few days. And as I listen I just keep saying to myself damn what a great fucking line or verse. There are always different lines that I pick up at various times. But there are some that every time I go wow thats just awesome. My fovorite right now is The screen door slams
Mary' dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me "Thunder Road" Anyone else have a favorite Bruce lyric they would like to share?

Heey, that's *history*, mate!
So glad you proposed this as Springsteen has been one of my first music loves, way before Pearl Jam and there's really loads of songs to choose from.
When I was younger I've always loved Bobby Jean and considered it a hymn to friendship. My favourite verses have always been
Now you hung with me when all the others turned away turned up their noise
We liked the same music we liked the same bands we liked the same clothes
We told each other that we were the wildest, the wildest things wed ever
Seen
Now I wished you would have told me I wished I could have talked to you
Just to say goodbye bobby jean
Now we went walking in the rain talking about the pain from the world we hid
Now there aint nobody nowhere nohow gonna ever understand me the way you did
Maybe you'll be out there on that road somewhere
In some bus or train traveling along
In some motel room therell be a radio playing
And you'll hear me sing this song
Well if you do you'll know Im thinking of you and all the miles in between
And Im just calling one last time not to change your mind
But just to say I miss you baby, good luck goodbye, bobby jean
But my all time favourite is Point blank and it would be hard to pick just one verse out of it.
Even though, lately I've been hooked by this particular version of Drive all night. Absolutely heartbreaking!0 -
Ed covered this one after Michael Jackson died if i recall correctly...

Love the Boss almost as much as I love PJ

So many amazing lyrics to chose from but this song has always been a favorite of mine.
From The New Timer...I love this song a lot and the inflection of Bruce's voice makes all the lyrics that much more brilliant.
"Late that summer was rollin' thru the plains of Texas
A vision passed before my eyes
A small house sittin' trackside
With the glow of the savior's beautiful light
A woman stood cookin' in the kitchen
Kid sat at a table with his old man
Now I wonder does my son miss me
Does he wonder where I am"0 -
It’s the same thing night on night
Who’s wrong baby who’s right
Another fight and I slam the door on
Another battle in our dirty little war
When I look at myself I don’t see
The man I wanted to be
Somewhere along the line I slipped off track
I’m caught movin’ one step up and two steps back0 -
The Boss is quite simply amazing.
I kind of grew up on him during his MTV/Much Music Born in the USA days...never thought too much about him. I started to look at his back catalogue a bit around The Rising, and finally saw him live for the first time solo (much like these EV shows) in 05 for his Devils & Dust tour. Needless to say i was absolutely blown away...what an insane talent.
I've since seen him with the E Street band twice (both amazing shows), and own all his albums. He's had a bit of an up and down career (90s were not a great decade for him), but the man is still going strong into his 60s and still producing great music (Magic!).Shows: Montreal 98, Barrie 98, Montreal 00, Montreal 03, Montreal 05, Ottawa 05, Toronto 06, Vancouver Night 1 08 (EV), Vancouver Night 2 08 (EV), MSG1 08, MSG2 08, Montreal Night 2 08 (EV), Toronto Night 1 08 (EV), Toronto 09, Hartford 11 (EV), Ottawa 11, Ottawa 16, Ottawa 22.0 -
"Racing in the Street" has always been a favorite of mine. This verse, in particular, is crushingly beautiful:
But now there's wrinkles around my baby's eyes
And she cries herself to sleep at night
When I come home the house is dark
She sighs "Baby did you make it all right"
She sits on the porch of her daddy's house
But all her pretty dreams are torn
She stares off alone into the night
With the eyes of one who hates for just being born
For all the shut down strangers and hot rod angels
Rumbling through this promised land
Tonight my baby and me we're gonna ride to the sea
And wash these sins off our hands0 -
I never liked him when I was younger (back in born in the usa days) but now that Im older I like him a lot. His discography is on often on rotation on my ipod. Still not a huge fan of born in the usa though. Also Im a RATM fan and had no idea Ghost of Tom Joad was his song, very cool"Well I guess there's nothing wrong with what you say, but don't sell me there can't be better ways" ~ PJ0

I've done my best to live the right way
I get up every morning and go to work each day
But your eyes go blind and your blood runs cold
Sometimes I feel so weak I just want to explode
Explode and tear this whole town apart
Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart
Find somebody itching for something to start
The dogs on Main Street howl
'cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man
And I believe in a promised land
There's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor
I packed my bags and I'm heading straight into the storm
Gonna be a twister to blow everything down
That ain't got the faith to stand its ground
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenheartedCancel my subscription to the Ressurection

I like Bruce a lot, but for years if you asked me my favorite Springsteen song I would have said "I'm No Angel". I was shocked when I found out that was Gregg Allman and not Bruce. :oops:___________________________________________

I've seen Bruce dozens and dozens and dozens of times ( countless really ) , even tho PJ is my favorite.
Geography dictates otherwise, we're lucky here in the NY-NJ area to get all these shows locally to go see The Boss.
Ive seen him ( and met him at ) Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank after 9-11, Convention Hall, Paramount Theatre at Convention Hall, I've seen him at a Bar in Asbury Park, and of course all the larger Venues in our area such as MSG, Tower Theatre in Philly, The Spectrum and of course Giants Stadium . Been to both The Today Show AND Good Morning America shows to see Bruce .
We have an ongoing thread over on the " Other Music " section, c'mon over and join in !

This Bruce song gets me everytime live :
The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
You gave your love to see in fields of red and autumn brown
You gave your love to me and lay your young body down
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need you near but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
It was dark, too dark to see, you held me in the light you gave
You lay your hand on me
Then walked into the darkness of your smoky grave
Somewhere up the stairs into the fire
Somewhere up the stairs into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

Springsteen is just awesome, I listened to him alot growing up through my Dad. My Dad is a huge fan and being in the UK use to listen to pirate radio and hear The Boss before he made it big over here. We went to see Springsteen live at Old Trafford a few years ago - the 1st time my Dad had ever seen his idol. Brilliant show, I don't think anyone puts on a show better than The Boss.
Born To Run still stands out as my favourite album, Jungleland is definitely my favourite song but there's plenty of great Bruce songs. I've also got "Tramps like us, Baby we were born to run" tattooed on my arm2000: Manchester
