ATTENTION ALL TICKET BROKERS:

I tried for Benaroya (7/16 show) on TICKETMASTER for 1 hour non-stop right at 5PM. Probably searched over a 150 times over and over again. Very disappointed I couldn't even get one seat. And I know I'm not the only fan that got left out... There's tons. But guess who managed to get a shit ton of tickets!?!?!?? Ticket brokers!! Imagine that.

All I know is that there is a very certain somebody that needs to get punched in the face, and I mean like really fuckin hard. This certain somebody either works for Ticketmaster, a ticket broker, or both. Why ticket brokering is legal - I don't know. Somebody needs to get to the bottom of this. Ticket brokering - A real nice way to make a profit - no skill or soul required. Just hog all the tickets from real fans then turn around and sell them for double or triple. Easy enough. It works out good because you don't have to be good at anything, other than buying tickets. Hell I'm smart enough, I could probably be a great ticket broker. But I'm not a cocksucker so it probably wouldn't work out.

If you're a ticket broker, would your parents be proud of what you do? The answer is no. They probably wish they would have coat hangered you before you were born. The next time I have to buy tickets from ticket brokers - I need every ticket broker involved to line up outside the venue when the concert is over, then I am going to punch each and everyone of them directly in the cocksucker... Then we can call it even. That should make up for me spending my hard earned money - which was earned by participating in society as a functional member, not as a money grubbing leach. So if you're a ticket broker and you just read this post, go fuck yourself.

Everyone else, sorry for the language I know this isn't a truck stop. Just angry. And I would feel slightly better if I knew at least one ticket broker read what's written above. Take care!

  • I just had a conversation about this very problem with 10c today. I sent them an email regarding this very problem and they promptly responded saying that they have battled this issue for many many years and that the laws in this country protect this practice and until we can get the laws changed we're kind of shit out of luck. We need to unite this entire fan club on this issue. If we all pitched in the government can't ignore a million voices. Then again, they've ignored the masses time and time again. Not to say give up, but if there is a way to make a spectacle on a grand scale, I'm willing to participate in changing the system.

I hear you brother ! While I was lucky enough to score a pair for Detroit I've bought from scalpers when getting shut out more times than I care to admit.
Think the coat hanger comment might be a bit offside though.

They are fucking vultures, Go there on the day of the show and hopefully you can find them at a decent price. They take advantage of people who panic and pay way to much the tickets always come down closer to the show date. But this still does not solve the problem

It's been going on forever :( I recall in high school in 1989 reading the newspaper classifieds and seeing an ad for Grateful Dead tickets for sale. I hadn't heard of any new concert so I called Ticketmaster. They said they had no knowledge of any new concerts. So I called the number in the paper - sure enough it was a ticket broker. He told me the show would be announced next week and he'd have the tickets available the same day TM would. I asked him how and of course got no explanation only that I could get the tickets or not. And that was all legal.

Meanwhile some poor schmuck outside the arena selling a ticket for $10 over the ticket price will get arrested for scalping. Go figure.

I live in Australia and scalping tickets is ILLEGAL and tickets are attainable to real fans. I'm empathetic that American laws don't seem to protect real people. Hopefully things will begin to change.

I agree...the system sucks...me and 2 other friends tried right at 10am for the 2 NY shows with no luck! In fact, the Beacon website linked my friend right to a broker who was selling 4 tickets for over $750!!! I was fine with spending up to $200 for a pair but $375 I just can't afford...once the 10C tickets are gone so is any hope of going to these shows without paying a fortune!

A scalper in Toronto shows up in a Purple Lambo, gets out after he parks it where everyone can see the fuckin purple heap of trash, and starts selling tickets and then drives away.

Does Hockey games too. I seen him at PJ in Toronto and I seen him at David Gilmour, Toronto & TOOL, Toronto. A purple fuckin lambo! Too much man ... too fuckin' much!

  • As long as we, the fans, continue to buy these tickets at the scalper's inflated prices, scalpers will continue to exist and thrive. The way to beat them is to not give in to temptation by buying tickets from them. I refuse to, no matter how badly I'm dying to see EV live. I missed out on both presales, and I'm looking at ebay, and the prices make me want to puke. I am a normal guy with a wife and kids, and I can't justify paying $200 for a ticket to see EV.
  • Cant figure out how The Philly show was sold out at 10:00 am when they went on sale at 10:00 am. Wanted to take my 8 year son to see Ed but that doesnt look like its gonna happen. Its an absolute disgrace how these brokers get away with this. Hate disappointing my kids.
  • i remember going to Chicago theater box office for Widespread Panic tickets one time and the first 5 guys in line were hired mexicans, what can you do. Oddly enough when i went in to buy my max allotted tickets in cash the jerkoff printing tickets gave me a hard time for buying so many with cash. It just so happened that we were getting married the same weekend panic was doing 3 nights and we had a bunch of people that wanted to go to as many nights as possible, the wife and i only went to sunday.

    Good Morning!!!!
I want to start by saying that I love the passion of this board!!! While I was fortunate to get tickets through the Ten Club sale this week, I certainly have been in your shoes. I thought I would share my humble opinion on the subject. Scalping has always been a hot topic. No, I'm not a scalper, and if I do have to sell tickets, I will sell them for what I paid. The problem is not the scalpers (for the most part), it is your local governments that do not enforce the laws they have in place. While scalping is legal in many states, many states have limits to the amount they can resell a ticket above its face value. In PA, the limit is 5% above face value. Needless to say, these "laws" are not enforced. Lately, the large companies have created their own "scalping" sites; the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA all have places that fans can go and resell their tickets for whatever they want. Of course, these sites get a very nice fee on each sale. Your local governments will not go after these entities as they provide jobs and revenue. The question I ask myself is, "Why would someone want to become a ticket scalper in the first place"?
I try to humanize "the enemy" in an effort to understand their ways and thinking. Many of these people are spouses, they are parents, brothers and sisters; you get the idea. They are just trying to earn a living like the rest of us. They are not alone in buying or making something and selling it at a large profit. You would be shocked at the profit margin of some of the products you purchase at your local supermarkets. The reason this particular salesman's prices sting so much is because you are so very passionate for the product. I feel your pain. I have been there, and undoubtedly will get shut out at some point or another before all is said and done. I'm not defending the practice. I just thought I would provide another perspective on the subject.
Finally, I hope you all find your tickets without having to sell the farm. Someone on here made some good points on how to pay less for your tickets when buying from scalpers. Wait until the last possible minute, etc. Check it out if you get a chance. Have a great day my friends. Good luck, and rock on Pearl Jam!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't understand how the ticket brokers get their hands on the tickets before the sales even start. As soon as the solo concert was announced, I looked at some ticket broker site (can't remember which one), and the broker said it had tickets in specified rows. I wasn't going to buy from a broker -- just was curious. So how do they get the tickets before the sales start? Or are they just guessing that they'll have tickets for certain rows? If they get the tickets before the sales start, then I wonder if Ticketmaster isn't violating some Federal law. Do they get more money from the broker than they would from someone buying during the actual sales? I don't know if there's a Federal law against this, or if this is what is happening, but it just doesn't seem right.

Then I wouldn't have to get ass-raped myself for tickets... :D

And one more point to my rant: Why does Ticketmaster make us go through the security code thing (with letters that get harder & harder to read the older you get -- trust me on this, you young people) when the ticket brokers may already have their blocks of tickets before the sales even start? Is it to make us think that they give a crap about ticket brokers buying up our chances to get tickets? Or to make us think that they are trying not to let the tickets get in the hands of ticket brokers so that we don't get suspicious of what is really going on? To make us think that Ticketmaster is on our side? Or is it to make sure that ticket brokers with whom they don't have some sort of pre-sale deal don't undermine these deals (if that's what's going on) by getting the blocks of tickets at the same price that the general public is paying?

I know there are more important things going on in our country today, but consumers are getting screwed here. And it's not just consumers trying to go to an Eddie Vedder concert.

The choice is not only ours but also Eddies. He has been in the game long enough to know whats going on, hell this is the same guy that bent over backwards for his fans back in 1994 to find ways to cut ticket prices. Now what? All artists have the choice to eliminate scalpers by going paperless. Eddie knew the demand would be crazy to see him live in small venues, now look? Every show I wanted to see was sold out BEFORE THEY WENT ONSALE! Ok, PHilly is sold out, I will try for NYC, ok thats gone, I will try for Seattle, same story for all 3 shows, its a scam. You expect me to believe they sold 3,000 tickets in 5 seconds? Meanwhile hundreds of tickets show up on stubhub, a partner site for ticketmaster. You can blame scalpers all you want, but Eddie could have gone paperless and eliminated scalping, and looked out for us fans

I don't think that ticket brokers get ANY tickets before the sales start. If they have tickets for sale on their website, it's more than likely that they are hedging their bets - that they figure they have many people out there that are willing to sell their tickets for a marginal profit to the ticket broker who then turns around and sells them at even more of a profit. Keep in mind that pretty much all ticket brokers are probably working from the same "pool" of tickets...I'm fairly certain of this because I've bought from a broker before (tickets that were listed on about 10 local broker's website in the same section and aisle), and when I called to purchase the tickets, the guy said he had to call and make sure they were still available...which means, he probably had to call the person that actually owned them, pay that guy a small profit so he could reap the bigger profit by selling them to me. if all ticket brokers work from the same pool, they can all have a huge "inventory"...and that inventory is either owned in small increments by many different brokers or they are hedging their bet that they can purchase those tickets from schmucks like us who have bought 2-4 and had a couple friends bag out on us so we sell to these brokers for less than face just to recoup some money and not have to deal with ebay/SH and shipping. Just my 2-cents...

One more suggestion...start a thread on fans who want to see EV for face value and have everyone list the number of tickets they want...I tihkn that there are plenty of people who bought tickets for the concert 2-3 months away that eventually will need to get rid of them because of different circumstances (friends bagged out, change of plans, flights cost too much, etc...) and would rather sell them to someone here on the boards (i.e., "true fans") as opposed to an unknown that may just be looking to flip them for a profit. In fact, I've got a pair that I bought thinking I could go to two shows in 2 nights in Chicago - but my wife said only 1 night...so I have to get rid of the second pair...and would rather sell them at face to someone here than screw someone here that didn't get in (and I'd still be able to keep them out of the hands of scalpers AND help someone avoid those scalper fees).

They don't want no change, we already have...

they all got seats, we should have 'em too

    etc

I also forgot to mention during my initial rant... While I was searching TM's website incessantly right at 5:00PM yesterday, I also called TM to try and buy over the phone. I got through a few minutes after 5:00PM and the ticket agent indicated that the show had already been sold out. Weird. In addition, (just for yucks) I went onto a ticket broker's website BEFORE the tickets went on sale on TM. This website already had tickets for sale WITH Section, Row and seat number! I understand sometimes they are hedging their bets and just selling seats for a section, but these guys already had seat numbers. How did that happen? Didn't think tickets were onsale yet... I suspect a scam, or possible scamola.
