I am happy my wife is not the biggest PJ Fan. She acts as a kind of buffer so I don't end up doing ridiculous shit, like buy $3000 LPs. She won't really listen to the music I do unless we goto shows. She loves live music. It was that way when we went to see David Gilmour live. She never really liked Pink Floyd but loved that show and would go 100 times again. Same with Eric Clapton when he brought Derek Trucks and did the Dominoes tour. Had a ball...

Anyone else married/in a relationship/whatever with someone who is NOT a fan of Pearl Jam? My hubby has been a good sport by coming with me to a few shows but he sits throughout most of them while I jump around like a crazy person. I'm sure there's others out there that are in a similar situation, so I thought maybe we could support each other! How do you deal with it? Who do you get to come to shows with you?

Yes! My wife just doesn't understand why I act like a 12 yr. old at a Justin Bieber concert when it comes to Pearl Jam. The one show I took her to (Ice Bowl), which was an unreal show, she couldn't wait to get out of there. To quote her "They just kept playing and playing, I didn't think it was going to end!".....So needless to say, we were one and done on shows together. I still have a couple of friends that have interest, or I hook up my extra fan club ticket with a deserving soul on here! :)

That's EXACTLY how my hubby acted...and this was for the Chicago UC show where PJ played Crown of Thorns... come on now!!!!! I usually end up taking a friend to the shows but most of my friends could care less really. I think I'll use your cue and start unloading them here from now on!

That UC show was so much fun! (coincidentally, my wife was not in attendance ;) )

No lie, I've been thinking about starting this exact thread for a while now-- every time my wife calls me "obsessed" or refers to eV as my " boyfriend".

One thing that makes me suspicious as to just how much she " doesn't" like PJ, is she's been to 8 shows with me and insisted on going to whichever show I chose for the upcoming eV tour, despite me saying I could easily find a board member to go with. Ironically, the time she wants to go is the first time I got shut out of tickets. Naturally, I blamed her, haha.

Great thread, it's fun to see I'm not alone!

You're in good company. Some spouses just take awhile to catch on. Sadly, my husband seems to be a slow learner. I'm still hoping that some day, he'll see the light.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.
  • My husband used to not be a fan at all, but seeing Ed solo in 09 converted him. However, he can't do it 24/7 like me. I just can't understand how he doesn't "get it." Last time I had a little "too much" to drink I told him that he didn't have a soul if he couldn't understand it as I sung along to Crown of Thorns on PJ radio....
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....
    fade away...

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.

I think my wife "tolerates" them more then she lets on. I've made her some mixed CD's for her car and I know she listens to them. She's been to about 15 shows with me, and even though she says that she goes because she "likes the scene and partying with friends" she gets into the shows a little bit too

my girlfriend like them now... at the beginning was tough... took her to my first ever PJ concert and was the worst concert ever... after that I prefer to go SOLO is so much better... and she supports my PJ passion, so I'm happy that way...

    2. jump around like a crazy person -- again,:lol: (totally me all the way as well)
    3. my boyfriend of 2 years had only heard of 2 PJ songs when I met him! YEAH! Um, seriously. And I have been a die hard for almost 20 years.
    4. How do I deal with it? I make him listen to them and now he likes them alot, but nowhere near my fanatic level. Also, make him watch the concert DVDs I have. Multiple times.
    5. Who comes to the shows with me? Myself and I. Much more enjoyable that way to me.
I will join this support group. My name is Em. And I'm a PearlJamaholic.

My wife did listen to the RVM CD I had in the car and she told me she likes this one song, but she has no idea what the words are.

I told her no one does.

    Great thread!

My wife isn't a fan at all, although she does think some of the softer PJ and EV songs are okay. She went with me to one PJ show and she was bored in the beginning then later commented that he was pretty talented but has zero interest in seeing him live again. She also saw the PJ ACL tv show simulcast with me but she was pretty bored. She typically leaves the room whenever I play PJ or put on a PJ DVD. As long as she lets me travel to see PJ or EV whenever I want, that's fine with me :)

This thread is kind of the opposite of the "Pearl Jam Dating Service" thread. 8-)

I took my wife to Lady Gaga and got her tickets to Sarah McLachlan this year, so help me if she complains one second during the EV show in June... :)

I already plan on leaving her behind for a PJ20 show. She knows better. :D
