Present Tense vs. The End

So I dont really post on here much...I have been a fan for quite awhile, and although I don't follow the band like I did in the past, I got into a bit of an argument with a buddy....I told him my disdain for "the end" and "just breathe". Both songs are a bit whiny and I really don't enjoy them as much as other songs. A good buddy and fellow long-time fan disagreed and compared "the end" to PRESENT TENSE. Said they were about equal as far as quality of PJ songs.....I laughed and told him he was psychotic and soft. Present Tense is a top five PJ song in my book......."The End" is pretty average and good to listen to about once a year......Any thoughts?

    Present Tense can bring me to tears and have me motivated to conquer the world at the same time. There's no comparison.

    You said it yourself and I agree. Not that I particularly dislike The End; it can be very moving and fitting at different points in life. Personally, at the point I am at, I prefer Present Tense any day of the week.

    i have no hate for the end(actually my fav. on backspacer) but it is not even close to present tense

    Agree about PT. Always a top 5 PJ song.
    I'm a big fan of Ed's softer songs too, but The End is way down on that list for me as well.

    I personally think the end is really cheesy and phoned in. Easily the worst solo song he has written.

    Present tense is like filet mignon while the end is like a mcdonalds burger patty with secret sauce to make it seem better than it is.

    Funny thing is when I told him I was going to post on here after his bullshit statement, his reply was "those people need to get a friggin life".........he probably listens to "the end" and cries at least once a day......I told him the pearl jammers were going to lynch him, so feel free to give him a verbal beat down..."The.     Present Tense is a flawless song. The End is a pretty good song. No comparison in my book.

    The End is a better song in my opinion, but I also like Present Tense very much.

    I think they're both great songs, although I like PT a lot better, no contest. Still, there's nothing wrong if someone likes The End better.

    I like both, greatly prefer Present Tense. I made the mistake of putting The End on my iPod; it popped up during a particularly tough race, and I just wanted to lie down by the side of the road and give up. So I'd have to agree with the earlier poster re: how PT is so much more invigorating.

    There is no comparison in my book. Present Tense is one of PJ's best work.
