well where i grew up Nirvana was bigger. way bigger. even before Kurt went.

Z104 played the DC pj show. 94 or 93? The dj said Chelsea Clinton was there. i remember thinking, "that lucky bitch. she probably doesn't even like them that much." it was the first time i heard Betterman

It's awesome to see so many younger PJ fans. I can remember buying Ten at Sam the Record Man the week it was released. Then trying to get into the Zanzibar and having my fake I.D confiscated.

They were definitely bigger than Nirvana before Cobain offed himself.

They were bigger than Nirvana before and after Kurt died. I was a bigger Nirvana fan in the 90's but PJ still ruled the decade. However, Chicago might be partial to Eddie.

TEN -- I saw PJ open for Smashing Pumpkins & Red Hot Chili Peppers in Madison, WI on 10/16/1991, my friends and I -- having just decided that we saw the greatest opening band of all time -- immediately purchased Ten the next day, and finished senior year listening to Ten, Gish, and Blood Sugar Sex Majik. good times with great music.

VS. -- me and same friends went to the midnight CD release at The Exclusive Company on State Street in Madison, WI. and the flood of a few hundred people pushing against the store blasted and busted a storefront plate glass window. My pal Frank braved it, got a copy of the CD, and we listened to it 3-4 times till very late night/early morning.

VITALOGY -- Milwaukee's New Rock 102.1 played Vitalogy uninterupted and with no commercials at midnight the Saturday before release. I listened up through Not For You on a boombox, then drove to my friend Bob's place, listening in the car, then finishing up at Bob's place. Bob recorded it on cassette tape, so we listened & re-listened playing several games of pool.

NO CODE -- released in the summer of 1996... I left work and went to a record store and purchased a copy on CD. I then walked home listening on headphones with a Discman. For some reason, Present Tense is still haunting to me...

YIELD -- released my last semester of my senior year of college. I liked it immediately. Played very loud, very often. Inspired my pal to open the bar YIELD in Milwaukee.

BINAURAL -- released in late spring 2000... PJ rocked Grievance on Letterman... I made a copy of my new CD onto a cassette tape and hit the road with my pal from Tom, driving a straight shot from Chicago through to Naples FLA... I remember Nothing As It Seems becoming hypnotic as I drove past pecan farms with the morning sun breaking and rising in Georgia. Although never my favorite, I've spent a lot of time listening to Binaural. I also love the graphic design of the album art and inside book. the photos are spectacular as well.

RIOT ACT -- the first time I heard this album, I found it (after searching and searching) online and downloaded it for free (I've since purchased the LP, and caught them 4 times on that tour, so...) It's an OK record. I'd say that there's some incredibly strong material on there: I Am Mine, Green Disease, 1/2 Full, Arc, All or None... but, I haven't been able to convince myself that You Are is a great track... and the green laser performance I saw at Alpine Valley was a change up, but probably destined to be forever a deep track...

PEARL JAM -- this record rocks by the numbers. Nobody can say that this isn't professional rock: it gives us die hards another reason to pump a fist in the air, and reminds casual listeners that this band from the 90s still brings it. Maybe this one is a companion to Vs. & Yield... final two ballads are beautiful. I purchased this one on LP when I could.

BACKSPACER -- a Ten Club LP purchase. I'd found it online after it leaked and listened to it a dozen times over a weekend. The LP arrived in the mail, and stayed on the turntable for many many foosball games over the next month... perfect September crisp bike riding soundtrack.

Bottom line: Pearl Jam has always, somehow, brought it, and made me proud to be a fan.

And to hopethatyouchoke - you are too funny! This guy brings up a really positive thread and you gotta call out bootleg quality! Don't get me wrong, I really admire the fact that you objectively call out PJ and 10C when they seem out of line, and their fans when they blindly back everything the band does to the point of nausea, but sometimes you seem to just see the shitstain on the silver lining!

Wait, what!?!! No no no....wasn't shitting on anything at all. I just love the way that shows sounds. It wasn't a comment on how good or bad any others sound...it was a comment on just how awesome this show sounds. I love FM soundboards. I wish I was able to see them back in the day.

Oh sorry man, i totally misunderstood that shit. What do you mean by FM soundboards? Like FM radio? I don't know shit about sound but this thread made me go back and listen to my boot of the show, and it did sound awesome. I don't if it was better than the 2003 boots which I think are best, but it did make me miss Dave A a lot.

FM soundboards were shows broadcasted on live on the radio. There are a lot of them out there from different bands. I'm not sure if there are any other PJ shows. I love the way they sound. And I think a large reason why this particular sounded so good was Dave A.

I remember hearing Betterman from Atlanta 94 played being played every morning like clock work at 7am before i went to school on the local alternative station 89x. That was months before Vitalogy was released so all rock stations were itching to get any kind of new PJ on the air.

Also remember a local station (cant recall if it was 89x or WRIF) playing Vitalogy straight through a week or two before the release. I had that bad boy on tape and me and friends listened to it all night on the night before Thanksgiving '94 while drinking wild turkey :o

......and who that was old enough could forget the Self pollution radio broadcast?? I remember hearing commercials promoting it leading up to the broadcast!!!!! Freaking pirate radio broadcast being promoted!! Awesome!!!!!!

No one who even give a shit now if a band was to do this. (of course, no band besides PJ would even think to do it anyway)
There's a trapdoor in the sun.

Oh ok, I think you like Radiohead from your name and I got a couple of those, Earl's Court in '03 which is awesome and I think Glastonbury from '97 which is pretty fucking good too now that I think about it. I guess everybody's got those though. But I only have the Atlanta show from Pearl Jam. Yeah more of those in the 94-98 era would be great. Anyway sorry for causing a stink and thanks for the info.
And back on target, yeah, those days when Pearl Jam ruled the land like dinosaurs were fucking unbelievable. I guess that it was just gonna be like that forever you know? But it was pretty fleeting. I know we see "PJ20" everywhere but sometimes its hard to believe its been this long and this band is still kicking around. It's cool!
