I know we all know the history of PJ. Here in NY Z100 played the ATLANTA 94 concert.....complete. As you guys know that was chock full of cuses and dead air. Then Ed, djyin after as well. The concert was also replayed later that night and all weekend. By the weekend the cuses were edited...well then ones that were obvious. Songs like GO, RVM, were missed.... Same with self pollution radio. Can you imagine what the FCC would do today if that happened again? I don't remember any other bands that this kinda treatment.....maybe Greenday but not on this scale.

Well Z100 was Lady Gaga, Bieber type station. But it changed around 93 or 94 to to play more Alternative as it became more popular.

I've got one for ya. Here in Vegas, the rock station 107.5 played Pearl Jam A-Z. Every one of their songs, even covers. This was back in like 1997 or 98. It lasted all damn day. How glorious was that? Now some of their DJ's bag on Pearl Jam.

I'm almost inspired to listen to my WBCN copy of Atlanta 94 while on the train tomorrow in anticipation of the news.

Still my favorite Satan's Bed, WMA, Release, Indifference with Betterman debut and countless other gems.

The drums on the '92-'94 live versions of Release are fucking outstanding. That and the way Ed screams "for you to speak to ME" is among many reasons that live era is my favorite version of that song

I am utterly shocked. Seriously. Even freakin MTV plays good music on shows, Z100 is even worse than MTV.

Ok. I knew this was too good to be true. You mean they played it when it was LIVE back in 94.

    If they played that today.......

Easter sunday of 1994. I asked my dad to tape it for me off the radio. Far better than any of the numerous official boots I have bought over the years. I will never tire of this show and how awesome it sounds.

They wre the biggest band in America in 1995. You couldn't go 30-45 minutes without hearing them on the radio. They sold out Soldier Field instantly. Radio stations had nightly Pearl Jam blocks.

cool story. your story reminds me of being 13 years old and taping jones beach 2 00 off of k-rock. took me 2 cassette tapes to record the show.

and i just made 85% of you feel really old :lol:
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • It was on fucking Z100 right? Those fucking posers (people still use that word?) I remember when they switched formats and got all "Alternative", what a fucking joke. Anyway Atlanta '94, I was 17, 18? That shit was awesome! I was home from school, getting baked with my friends listening to it in a car. We were all fucking blown away since that might have been the first time we heard PJ live, at least before the $50 import-bootlegs? Well as far as a full show anyway. And I think its safe to say that shit like that will never happen again...

So metsfan, we may be old, but we heard/saw/experienced the best band ever at the height of their powers, while you were home sucking on your mom's teet playing with Power Rangers!

And to hopethatyouchoke - you are too funny! This guy brings up a really positive thread and you gotta call out bootleg quality! Don't get me wrong, I really admire the fact that you objectively call out PJ and 10C when they seem out of line, and their fans when they blindly back everything the band does to the point of nausea, but sometimes you seem to just see the shitstain on the silver lining!

I'm from the UK and remember getting up in the early hours to listen and record on tape. BBC radio 1 (our main station here) was airing it. Still remember hearing better man for the first time, amazing. They were huge in the uk but didn't really make the most of it as they didn't play any shows here in 94&95.
    My PJ shows:

  • they were so big that even my dad, who loved sinatra and neil diamond, could recognize eddie and a few of their songs. When I was a teenager, we went to my grandma's to make sauasage with the extended family and someone suggested we play some muisc. My dad said, without missing a beat "we've got pearl jam tapes in the car"

They were definitely bigger than Nirvana before Cobain offed himself.
