not sure if this is the best version on a boot, but as far as live versions, RITF from the Camden show on 7/5/03 was amazing.. the fireworks started over Penn's Landing (outside the venue, just across the river) so they played RITF mid-set along with live fireworks...
agree this one was awesome because it was spontaneous. they weren't planning on doing it and with the fireworks, so cool.
if you cue up Wishlist at the 8:20 mark, the fireworks start... he then switches the set list to RITF "colors in the sky, red white and blue")

I can't believe it took me reading through 3 pages to finally have somebody mention this one. I was 12 when this happened and I remember it like it was yesterday. I went CRAZY in my living room when Young came out.

The version from the Summerfest show in 06 is pretty awesome, extended drum intro, and the "hello tom, your name is tom" chant is great as was the "no fuel to burn, no fuel to burnnnnnnnnnnnnnn".

The one with Neil young at the mtv awards. It's so raw, but bad ass. hearing neil sing lead and Ed do the rocking in the free world chorus under it was pretty sweet. Then Ed sing's "there's a girl in the night verse."
Merriweather Post Pavilion 2000 when they were about to close with Yellow Ledbetter, Ed stops Mike after a couple of notes. They huddle en masse and change to RITFW...great moment.
The MTV Awards , back when MTV actually played music , gets my vote . A close second fo me is Holy Toledo , 10/2/04 ....PJ , Uncle Neil , and Peter Frampton.

More to Come....
Not only is this the best version that Pearl Jam has ever done...but it's also the best version Neil Young has ever done as well.
Just epic....Neil Jam blew everyone off the stage that night.
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
