  • It's not in Seattle and Mike isn't going to tell you anything about it if the news hasn't been released.

    Why wouldn't Mike tell Cosmo?
You know Mike, he gets all giddy and excited when something like this is brewing
and even though the rest of the band swears him to secrecy, he just can't help himself.
As a matter of fact, I think he's already told some very close friends.

I think it has already been decided it is not in Seattle... the city of Seattle. I'm simply trying to reconcile this reasoning:
    'Not Seattle, therefore, Alpine Valley'.
Why is the Gorge automatically eliminated? Are there events already booked there every weekend in the Summer? Because, if they are already all booked up... then, yeah... the Gorge is out.
Add: Just checked... Sasquatch! in May, Tim McGraw - June 18, Rush - July 2, Vans Warped Tour - August 13. Those are the only dates posted, the only dates known.
    ...
And I don't know what Mike is going to say until I ask him... IF I even get a chance to ask him. Actually... I don't know what anyone is going to say, until I talk to them. I lack the insight of knowing what someone is going to say, before they actually say it. If I get the chance to ask... I'll ask.

My wife and I hated seattle, and have no desire to ever return. So I for one hope it won't be there.

Where they really should play it is somewhere in Pennsylvania. Right in the heart of PJ country. Beaver Stadium could hold more fans they could ever draw.

This is an idea I can get behind seeing I live an hour away, but could you imagine the complaints about State College airport and lack of hotels. Although I could sleep in my own bed :)

Labor Day weekend is the first weekend of September.
Alpine Valley is about 2ish hours away from Chicago (depending on traffic). It's possible that you could catch a bus from O'Hare, but I'm not sure, you'd have to check their website to see if there are any buses going that way.

  • First of all, Weezer is from L.A., I think Cheap Trick is from Rockford, Ill. or something like that. I think the misconception is that Weezer is from Wisconsin is from their Happy Days music video for their 1994 smash hit "Buddy Holly", which the guy says they are from Wisconsin, because that is where the show was based in.

Second, as a resident of Seattle and someone who's been to the Gorge before, it is absolutely beautiful. I think it would be a huge mistake for Pearl Jam to shrug off Seattle area just because their last Key Arena crowds sucked. (Duh! because it's the Key Arena! Key Arena blows chunks). If they forgo the Gorge, atleast playing some Ten Club only warm up shows at the Showbox or something like that would make me happy.

I suggested the idea before of doing a east coast/midwest festival, and then a west coast one (being at the Gorge). I think that is feasible.

Just an update, as I said I personally have no inside info as I stated earlier. So I can see how "in the middle of the country" may not be taken literally. The dates can vary as you say, but the point of the post was that there seem to be many decent sources confirming alpine so going against it at this point just seems well, hopefull. The gorge really has to be ruled out, they wouldn't have said not seattle had the gorge been in play and honestly i'm not sure it could hold enough people. I was there in 05 and the place was packed for a regular gig. That being said alpine may not hold enough, but it is more. Until they release the info everything is speculation, but with the hotels, resorts, inside info etc alpine seems to be the place. You asked why everyone is under the assumption and those are the reasons I'm giving you. It may very well be different but it would be surprising. The band has surprised me more than a handfull of times so here's to hoping they do it once more.

I too am surprised by the choice of alpine valley if the rumors prove true.
It is a good venue. Wisconsin is nice in the summertime. Loved going to see the dead there back in the day.

But I am surprised they would choose an amphitheater with a relatively small amount of reserved seats for a "weekend" with Pearl Jam. As much as I prefer reserved seats, this type of event needs to be held in a place with a large open space and general admission in a big field or park. A place where it wont be so competitive to score tickets.

    Solider Field perhaps?

yah i bet we can camp in the endzone.

Alpine is only a few hours from Chicago and makes perfect sense imo.

I don't know, because I've never been... but, from this photo, the place looks pretty fucking big:

    ...
I says it's 20,000 capacity... but, I don't know, that grassy area looks like it can cram an awful lot of folks up there.

I've been planning to attend PJ20, but if it's at Alpine Valley, not sure I'll make the trip. My wife and I went to see DMB there a few years ago and night 1 was a total disaster. One of the lots was closed because a bad rainstorm turned it into a mud pit, and we sat in traffic for over 3 hours. When we finally got into the venue, it was already 5 songs into the show. The only entrance was at the top of the lawn, which was completely packed. There was no lighting, so we couldn't see how to get down to our seats. There are paved walkways but you can't see where they are, and it was impossible to navigate through all the people anyway. And once you walked so far down the wet lawn, you'd start to slide. We talked to 3 different clueless venue employees who offered zero help. We ended up just leaving, and walked out with scores of people doing the same. Some people that were STILL just arriving asked the crowd why we were leaving and most of us were too pissed to even speak. Tenth row seats wasted. :x

On the second night we left much earlier but the lot was reopened so we had no trouble getting to our seats. The show was fine, but I think our experience from the night before tainted the entire trip. Honestly though, the venue is not that great and the surrounding area is just vast nothingness. We spent some time in Milwaukee which was nice but underwhelming. It's not a place I ever need to visit again.

I don't believe they would have it there, because it simply does not hold enough people. This is their signature event, their very own festival that will have some pretty incredible supporting acts if we are to believe the rumors. They are saying "middle of the country" because they know A LOT of people will be traveling to it. Not 20,000 or 30,000 -- I'm thinking more like 50,000 or more. I think a good spot would be the Bonnaroo grounds or someplace similar. It's a festival, not a regular tour stop. Alpine Valley makes no sense.

Nobody on here knows for sure. You'd be a fool to believe any of the rumors. Just be patient, & it will be announced.
