I don´t care what Ed believes in.
Personally I believe in God.
So that doesn´t make me clever, cause people who are atheists are more intelligent?
That´s fuckin´ bullshit!
Some of you people tend to have that opinion...Roskilde 2000, Berlin 2006, Athens 2006, Dusseldorf 2007, Copenhagen 2007, New York NY 1 + 2 2008, Berlin 2009, London 2009, London 2010, Berlin 2010, Manchester 2 2012, Berlin 1 2012, Stockholm 2012, Oslo 2012, Copenhagen 2012, Amsterdam 1 + 2 (EV solo) 2012, Amsterdam 1 + 2 2014, Stockholm 2014, Oslo 2014, Leeds 2014, Milton Keynes 2014, Heartland Festival DK (EV solo) 2017, Berlin 2018, Barcelona 2018, Copenhagen 2022, Prague 2022 (Cancelled)

I suppose 'God's dice' WAS a catchier title than 'The dice that belong to the fictitious supreme being that I personally don't believe in'.
Just stop the madness already0 -

Jeff wrote Gods' Dice, and here's what he had to say about it:
"That came out of kind of a conversation with somebody who's a pretty hardcore Greek Orthodox Catholic...I think I've been walking that line for a long time whether do I believe in God or am I my own God or where am I in that whole scheme of things. I think it has a lot to do about judgment. I'm still trying to figure out what that song's about...but judging anybody who has any sort of belief system whether they believe in God or not."

Edit: Oh, and the title is "Gods' Dice", not "God's Dice", which is a big difference, actually. Can't escape from the common rule...
If you hate something, don't you do it too0 -
Im still here wrote:When you are Burning in Hell next to Ed, have fun
.....and as far as Ed mentioning early Religion, check out Chinese Religions
some of the oldest in the world
they didn't survive without Religion, they had Religion
but Religion is not necessary to have spirituality
Hey Ed, maybe you should get in touch with your spiritual side
ps: showing up Drunk to shows sux for everyone man, just my opinion, actually more than just my opinion
Burn in Hell? Well I don't beleive in Hell either, but thanks anyway! I can also tell you the #2 thing that Eddie hates besides religion.........and that is the entire state of Texas. Go tell GWB to burn in hell..his RELIGIOUS beliefs has clouded his judgements so badly, that the entire world is in shambles. Thanks Texas!"All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives"--Ed0 -

I don't care who wrote it. Ed sang it. A TRUE Atheist, I would imagine, would never even ACKNOWLEDGE a God...0 -

Why not? Writers are concerned with the human condition, for the most part, and belief in gods are a very big part of that. I don't think Ed, no matter what his personal beliefs are, would shut himself off to exploring that sometimes.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -

I understand your point, but we're talking about Ed being an atheist, not Ed being a songwriter. The fact that Ed called out to 'God' at MSG, just to say he doesn't believe in 'him' just makes him look like an idiot. Its like calling someone on the phone just to tell them you don't want to talk to them anymore. If you don't believe in something, or someone, then shut the fuck up about it already. If you don't believe in ghosts, don't sit around the campfire telling ghost stories. If you don't believe in an afterlife, don't talk about heaven and hell. Just my opinion of course0 -

But why? Why can't people talk about what they want? Just because someone doesn't believe in ghosts doesn't mean ghost stories aren't fun!R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

Yeah, people who tell ghost stories without believing them are real assholes. Jesus, it was a throwaway comment in the middle of a rock concert - I don't think he intended for it to lead to an in-depth analysis of his faith, or lack of faith.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -

I hate to disappoint the atheist bashers here, but Hitler was not an atheist. He was a strident God-believer who identified himself as a Christian on record, both in his own writings and in his speeches many, many times.

ETA: I've always thought Vedder was a least agnostic if not atheist, but his beliefs really don't matter to me.

vedderoffdead wrote:What I mean, is don't go on and on about not believing in something and then talk about it JUST to get a rise out of the crowd. I understand you don't HAVE to believe in ghosts to tell ghost stories. I'm not an idiot. Just don't stand there defiantly stating that ghosts don't exist and then break into a scary ass ghost story. Don't preach it, just live it is my motto...
I guess I just don't see Ed's comment as out of line with the music. What references there are to religion seem to laced with a fair amount of uncertainty.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -
I am thankful to God that everyone can have an opinion about things and I am thankful that we live in such a free world but freedom requires responsibility and that is really what needs to be addressed, responsibility. Noone seems to take responsibility for their own selves and blame either God, religion, politics, parents, children, whatever else you can think of so he/she can not take the responsibility for his/her own actions. Yes, I believe in God I am a Christian who believes that Jesus is the Savior but that doesnt make me any less of a human being than an atheist. But it does mean I have a responsibility to speak the truth as I believe, in hopes that God will work in someones life to speak to his/her own heart. Study the Bible dont just read it. I use to believe that something bigger than me existed but just didnt know, then I began to STUDY the Bible and unbeknowest to me, I was converted. IT takes time to study Gods word and I encourage anyone to at least to study. Ok im off my soap box LOL
I love Pearl Jam and have been a fan for a very long time and its nice to talk to others who love the groupKeep rocking!

"Gods word" = a book written by primitive mortal minds with little grasp of the natural world around them.
Don't waste your time studying a largely obsolete -- and often offensive -- work of fiction. Live life, enjoy it, and be a good person. Are you a screenwriter?

I know I will probably be a minority in this chat about this so Im not surprised, as its part of being a Christian. Most of the time you are in the minority, which is fine by me but please dont insult my beliefs is all I ask. I am just here trying to help others that might want the help in the truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ. So if you dont believe or dont wish to believe I would appreciate no harsh opinions in what I believe.0 -
Janiece wrote:Also an opinion. How can you know its a waste of time? Have you ever tried it?

You're right. It's an opinion. My opinion.
You also said you have the responsibility to speak the truth as you believe. Well so do I, and what I wrote I believe to be true... whether you like it or not.
Please don't be insulted and I apologize if it was harsh, but why is it that musical tastes, affections for sports teams etc. can be criticized but someone's religion cannot? Why is that? If I think you're religion is silly, in the context of a discussion on religion, why can't I point that out? Atheists get enough crap and they're just like you, only without the superstition. Are you a screenwriter?

Well i cant get past the first few pages...God made man out of dust and then made woman by using adams rib (so we didnt evolve from apes then)...a talking snake...noah and his ark, how did he catch 2 snow leopards, it took David Attenborough 5 years to find one of those...how come all the freshwater fish survived....too many questions, too many gaping holes in my opinion to be even considered true. Darwinism i totally understand and how all life on earth evolved from single celled organisms billions of years ago and everything fits, the bible is a work of fiction in my opinion. However, where the universe came from, the stars, time etc, i'm open to anything on that including a God.It's Evolution, Baby!0 -
