Of course most of us don't know each other here personally but a lot of us do know "of and about" each other - and with no obligation to anyone I post the following
My son Ryan is doing good in basic training, got a letter from him today, he
says that his favorite part of the day is mail call.
If you want to
drop him a note his address is:
PFC Ryan Aiken
C Co. 2-13 INF REGT - 1st Platoon
4380 Magruder Ave.
Ft Jackson, SC 29207-6809
Mail is all that the boys there have to look forward too - just a simple "hi, howz it going" will mean more to him than you can know - the day starts at 4:45am and ends at 8pm - from 8pm till 9pm is "free time" and that is when the mail gets read - post cards or greeting cards are an awesome thing to send - you can't send care packages but you can send cough drops and a few stamps, really they are hoping for the least "coughy medicated" cough drops and the ones he wants are closest to candy - thanks a bunch everyone and we will keep you posted on Ryan
I am just tossing this out there - He knows I dig Pearl Jam the most and even knows a few board names when I say them in conversation at the dinner table - any, I expect nothing from anyone because we all have very busy lives - if anything I want to thank you for taking the time to allow me to say just what a fine young man Ryan is and we can't all wait to see him again on December 14th
Cheers
Jason

Jason,
You must be very proud of him for taking this step. Thank you for sharing this with us. May God bless your son and all those serving this great country of ours. May he come back to you safely.
Best wishes to you and your family for a safe and wonderful holiday season.

Good for him!! I did my basic at Ft. Jackson back in '93. I was scared to death, but looking back I was so glad I did it. And I will agree, mail call is one of the days highlights. And fortunately (or not...push-ups for each piece of mail), I had a birthday during training. Tons of b-day cards. I will drop Ryan a quick note w/ in the next day or two...I've met Rob

My brother-in-law came back from Kuwait around the time when your son was starting. I hope all progresses smoothly for your son. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous
