Who is down for camping? Where is the closest place to camp? Snug Harbor does not seem too party friendly. Not that I am planning to go on a crazy bender or anything, but I just would like to know of a place that will allow alcohol and not hassle you for staying up a little late and chatting around a campfire. I read somewhere that Alpine is supposed to have received the go ahead and allow one of the parking lots to be used as a campground starting for the 2011 season. There are suppose to be about 400 - 500 camping spots available, but I don't know for sure if that is happening. It would be nice though. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Where do all the Phish & DMB people go when they have their things at Alpine? I think the Dead Heads used to just take over the town and park their VW's and set up camp wherever they felt comfortable back in the day.

Google 'camping' in the Elkhorn and East Troy area and research a few of them.
Remember that a lot of camping places across the country have supposed strict rules about stupid shit... Take it with a grain of salt. Most aren't enforced unless there are complaints.
As for the camping at Alpine, I think the deets are still being figured out.
Depending on how far west of Milwaukee that you stay, its only about 30-45 mins. There are only two entrances to the venue, so if you arrive after 5pm, prepare to sit a little while.... But, do come preparty with the rest of us! Come early!

Thanks for the info. I was just hoping someone knew from camping out here before if there was a nice place within walking distance preferably. The Indy show last May was nice with the campground right across the street. No hassle with any post-parties after the show either. Just wondering if their was a similar place by Alpine. I am familiar with the area, but have not been there since '03 and I have never camped there before.
Thanks for starting this thread. I am hoping it will become a definite resource.
Is there actual wilderness next to this amphi-theatre? Like, could I have a secret forest ninja camp out in the hills and not worry about a reserved spot?

Again, IF IT HAPPENS....
I figured that I would start an 'info thread' to help answer people's questions.... since I have received many pm's about it already.
I'm not an expert by any means, but I will try to compile some info for travel, lodging, and what-not.
Feel free to add your own info or pm me any additional links and such to add to the original post.
I was thinking about house rentals. I have looked into a few, close to Lake Geneva which is a very touristy town with more to offer in the vicinity.
There is always anywhere around Milwaukee as well, but that is going to be a bit longer of a drive- especially after a looong day/night of rockin'- but much more options.
-Even if it is more money to fly into milwaukee, you will definately save the headache and 2+ hours getting in from Chicago... plus the rental car.
The venue is in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of hotels in the surrounding areas... And, when they say it is a 15-20 min. drive to somewhere, it will be just that. The only traffic that you will have to deal with around the venue is fellow concert-goers, not crazy city dwellers (besides all you east coasters, road trippin' it in ).

I'd be looking at driving up from Southwest Missouri. It's about 10 hours. I have a good friend in Chicago who i know would go. I could always fit another 1-2 people in and pick up on the way, up through St. Louis, Indiana etc. It's not set in stone yet, but driving would be cheaper from where i'm at, and esp. if i have tag-alongs to help chip in w/gas.

How long is it from Milwaukee to Alpine on the day of a concert?

I'm still hoping someone here knows from experience a nice campground that is within walking distance from Alpine.

It was so much better on Sunday
I would say an hour on a concert day from Milwaukee. Chicago is a 1-2 hour trip depending on traffic

No campfires allowed on the Alpine Valley grounds, at least according to their insane camping rules. Sorry

I'm pretty sure the type of "baking" you two are referring to is also against the Alpine Valley camping rules and regulations of 2011.
What do you think of my impersonation?
