    I think he was passing along a specific message. All presidents have speech writers and most state of the unions and campaign speeches are mere fluff and talking points, not real substance about issues or detailed plans. Also, I think Obama is a smart guy, but that's neither hear nor there. Bush, our last President came off like a buffoon in most speeches and interviews, but that didn't mean he couldn't be successful in his job (whether he was is a different conversation). Also, what does Obama's college thesis have to do with anything? What or how is this pertinent to anything in life other than fishing for a reason to complain about the man you obviously are biased to dislike? It's a pretty ridiculous concept to even mention quite honestly.
