    one of my favourite soups :) Look forward to saving the ham bone from Easter and making a mean pea soup similar to this one

    a big dollop of real maple syrup if I have it on hand and the ham bone but you have to make sure to leave lots of meat on the ham bone...you can go further by sawing it in half so all the marrow leaks out

    That's a good idea too, didn't think about the maple syrup addition.

    Do you add soy sauce when it's done?

    no, never thought of that one, will have to try it. Split pea soup is one of those soups that is hard to screw up. The main thing is not to put too much peas in there where it becomes mush.....when you have to cut your soup up....theres likely to much peas. Keeps well in the freezer too and its always a crowd pleaser.....specially with some nice fresh buns (wheat not flesh)

    That's why I blended it all together, so I wouldn't have to worry about it becoming mush, has a nice texture to it, all the flavors blend well and there are tiny pieces of ham in it from it being chopped in the blender. Soy has a nice little salty kick, I forgot to put some in last time. I did the same with some broccoli, good flavor too, I have a little of the pea left and might add it to the broccoli I have in the freezer for next time.
