Who do you think covers this song better?
Both Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell are known to play this song live from time to time.
I love both but I like Chris Cornell's more.

i haven't even heard cornell's version but i don't have too - it's eddie hands down. and i love cornell but no one compares to eddie. husband is a huge beatles fan so i break 'em for him every time we hear it that eddie does it better than the beatles.

Ved > Cornell (all day, anyday)
  • I'll give the nod to Vedder, but it is not as lopsided as some might think.

not even close. vedder wins. easily.
  • Ya I like both versions and wouldn pick whos better or whos best . But theres too much bias on this site. Some people just too obsessed with p.j and eddie vedder .
  • While I personally prefer Eddie's voice on this song, I've seen Chris Cornell do this song twice and it rocked pretty damn hard both times.

I'm pretty sure everyone here will say EV. After all this is a PJ board.

At CC 2-3 years ago he asked for requests, I shouted 'Hide Your Love Away'... You can tell he wasn't expecting it, kinda strummed through the chords and said 'okay!' and did it.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

this thread highlights what is wrong with this forum.. some people havent even listened to Cornell's version but then go on to state that they prefer Ed's version... how can you compare things you have no knowledge of?

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Pretty easy to find and listen to Cornells version
simply google....how do we know the majority of people hadn't listened?
I listened and I chose hands down Mr Vedder but I certainly wouldn't have had to
    even listen.
You see for me, Eddie's voice is superior any and every time over Cornell's
and there may be other fans that feel this way too.
Personal preference of tone, is the deal, not a sheep situation.
Although he would make a beautiful shepherd, with a voice like a calling.
  • Hells yeah this gets me pumped up for the big CC solo show at The Fillmore in May!

I've seen them both do it live, by themselves, and Ed gets the crowd yelling, "Hey!" It was great.

How bout they perform it together, as well as "Redemption Song?"

I get what you are saying but Cornells version might be the most heartfelt beautiful thing you might ever hear... might being the word... but you don't know... so when a thread comes up saying Vedder VERSUS Cornell at a song it might be prudent to have heard both versions to make an educated comparison...

like me asking steak v chicken on www.steaklovers.com/forums and then people coming on and saying "well i've never had chicken but i dont need to... its steak all the way baby!!!!"

basically... ask the topic on Cornells forum and you'll get more people voting for him... and they'll say the same as people on here.. "i've never heard Vedder but i dont need to ... its Cornell all the way! "

Yes it is a favorites thing..Eddie is my favorite all the way every time..his voice is like heaven to me
and Cornell's tone is way off base for me.
Now if Chris Isaak performed a song or Dean Martin or Michael McDonald and I was to compare it to Eddie
I would listen to be sure it was Eddie that was the better version but I would know in my heart he would be ;)
Eddie's got my heart you know
