Not that anyone can really answer this question. Just a thought thats all. I didn't pre order the vinyl and cd this time around because I wanted them on the release date. So when I went to the store today to buy my copies the clerk said "hey theres a cool box set too, check it out." So I did, and bought it. Why wasn't the box set sold, or promoted at all on the 10c site? I had no clue there even was a box set for this release. Now I'm really happy I didn't order the vinyl and cd from the goods section. I would have felt completly ripped off after learning I could have bought an official box set in a store.
looking up...wondering if there is anything that you cannot do....

I am pretty sure it wasn't released in the U.S., so it would go against worldwide distribution agreements if the 10C sold it directly to members since the 10C is U.S. based.

It was $55 at Sunrise today and then I had a coupon for $5 off so I got it for $50. They only ordered 3 and I got the last one. I had no idea they had a set either until I went to look for a copy on vinyl and they didn't have any. Pretty glad I didn't order through the site when I ordered my PJ20 hoodie. Sucks if you can't get it in the States.

  • I'm not sure I understand why they can't sell them in the US if they are their own record company now. I'm also not sure why they wouldn't at least secure a handful for US members. At least you guys have been able to get them elsewhere for a good price.
  • well i guess you wouldnt have known there was a deluxe edition unless you checked the boards at all since early november.

luckily i ordered all 3...cd and vinyl frm tenc and the deluxe from universal music
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...

They are their own label, but they still need distributors to get the product out there. Most distributors require exclusivity in their regions. If the 10c sold the non-U.S version, that would infringe on their U.S. distributor's ability to sell the domestic version here in the U.S.

For backspacer, they hooked up with target for distribution rights for the US, but for outside the US where there are no Target stores, I think they used a record label to distribute the album?

It's probably something similar, where they sold rights to distribute to different labels outside the US. It's pretty crazy how the world is set up into different zones for distributions, and what rights get sold... etc..

I guess the 10c opted not to do a box set, but one/some of the companies in charge of distribution/rights outside of the US opted to make deluxe sets. I'd imagine PJ only had limited control as the album contained songs own by sony/epic and what not. There was probably some negotiating.

The listing on Amazon.com indicates their version is an Import. The cool thing is the amazon.ca website doesn't list it as an import. Which probably means the deluxe is being in produced in Canada as well.

10c has never really been in the business of selling imported items. There's been many threads asking why they didn't sell this or that on the website. I guess they aren't interested in importing and reselling, probably not enough profit margin as they'd end up pay whatever markup to the exporter.

So goes the world of international commerce, intellectual property rights, and distribution contracts :)

I wonder this myself. Cause i'm shocked SHOCKED amazon.ca CANADA was able to get the box set's before any store in all of Canada & USA and were able to ship them out day's ago where fan's received it in the mail a day before the release date. How is it possible they could get the boxes in & sell them so cheap @ only $60 bucks. It boggles the mind. Just like packages shipped from Seattle to Vancouver (a 2 hour 30 minute drive) take 6-8 weeks. :?

Read my post above. It's wierd. Amazon.ca doesn't list it as an import. Maybe whoever has the rights to it in Canada made them domestically? Whereas the US didn't, Maybe Amazon.com is importing them from Canada? :)

I really find the world of global commerce, and all the rules, nuances, rights, and what not to be fairly confusing sometimes.
