Hartford parking question....

Stephen FlowStephen Flow Posts: 3,327
edited March 2008 in The Porch
figured I'd get this one out of the way before I forget.

In 06 I remember having to walk... and walk... and walk... soo soo far to get to the venue from where we parked...

So anyone who is familiar w/ the venue... where is the best place to park and how is the tailgating there?

    Don't forget Will-Call at Hartford!!! Does anyone know what time Will-Call opens? Some might want to go Thur nite and get Will-Call Fri morning.

    By the way, if MSG and Mansfield sold out, why is Hartford still going?

    Since when? Last time I was there was maybe 2001 and the scene in the lot was out of control.....
    Boston Garden 5/25/06
    Lollapalooza 8/5/07
    Madison Square Garden 6/24/08 and 6/25/08
    Mansfield 6/30/08
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The answers are fatal......
    Try parking at the car dealerships. (BMW is where we parked last time) tailgating is still allowed there. the free parking at the expo center might not allow it though.
    If you get off the highway (exit 33 off of 91) you can take a right, it will bring you to the lots. if they are full, turn right on the main road and go to the hartford Jai-Alai (if they still let you)
    $10 for parking at BMW is better than $15+ at the venue...especially when you cant Tailgate.
    a lot of people have had horrible experiences at that venue
    parking, get there VERY EARLY, like before 4-5 if you want to park close, otherwise, the walk is part of the deal
    I parked directly across the street from Dunkin Donuts, and was so excited after an hour in the car, and an hour on the ferry. Saturday aftrenoon, 5:00 and DD was closed. What the hell is that all about?
    You mean Hartford doesn't have personal rickshaws to and from the parking lots?
    WTFkindabooshit is that?!
    GetRight----Parking at the Tweeter in Mansfield is a nightmare (I've been there 15 times for concerts, including River Raves) but it sold out fine. That can't be the only answer. If MSG and Mansfield sold out that quickly, aren't hardcores jonesing to drive 90 minutes or so to see PJ, despite parking difficulties? Seriously, at Tweeter if you park in the free lot, you'll be there 2 hours while trying to leave.
    I have generally had good experiences at great woods.
    we park in one of the lots before the entrance and never had a problem.
    but I dont get it either, I bought Hartford tickets-no place Id rather be that night.
    There have been many incidents where the riot police came. The place used to be nuts. At the Radio 104 Fest a girl died. I saw it happen near me. Some guy tried driving through a chain that divided the lot, thinking that it would break. It didnt, but he thought it did and kept driving. The chain pulled all its poles out of the ground and smashed cars and took people out. The one girl died because she got her neck pinned against a SUV by the chain and was pulled and tossed right over the SUV. After that everybody ran after the car, a full size Bronco and smashed it up with rocks and shit. Then a bunch of people tipped the thing over. He was shitting because he didnt realize what he had done. He wouldnt get out of the car until people started beating the shit out of him. He ended up in an ambulance and even then people were jumping in the ambulance after him to beat him up.This was in the Jai-alai parking lot. It was the craziest thing ive ever witnessed.
    PJPat - That's awful. I saw PJ in Hartford during the Ticketmaster hassle (we had the Globe Tix) and were in the lawn, but was buzzing so didn't mind too much. Will lawn seats be on, by the way? But I can understand you being scarred by that scene. Truly awful.
    Im sure there will be lawn seats. Actually, i think its sand now because it was always a mess when it rained. Yea, I was shocked. I was lucky because my crew was right on the opposite side of the chain that took everybody out.
    EDIT: I meant if the TVs in the Lawn area will be on. And geez, there's sand now? Should we bring sandals if we get lawn seats (we won't know our seats until that day).
    The screens were on last time. never heard about the sand though.
    i will admit that the MMC gets crazy, especially in the lawn. I remember seeing fires on the lawn for Soul Asylum (104fest 98) and does anyone remember Rage Against The Machine getting banned for causing a riot where the fence got burned down?
    Nice to see this opinion of Hartford, because I've seen a lot of people really slamming it ... I'm coming there for the first time ... is a bus or train from NYC at all practical? Can you get close enough to the venue? I'm PSYCHED for this one too!
    Yea, thats when they played with Wu-Tang. Thats was a crazy concert. Riot police even came a couple times for Dave Matthews. They had tear gas and were shooting people with rubber bullets.
    Why would anyone riot during a DMB concert? They would have to be awake first.
    So, just got my Hartford tix but have never been to Hartford. Are there any hotels near this amphitheater? Is the amphitheater in or near the city?
    I forget what hotel we stayed in, but we left our car there and walked. It was a long walk but on the way back, we were glad we walked because the traffic was insane. I'm sure it took hours to get out of it.
    Venue description on Live Nation says for sell-out shows they offer free shuttles from parking garages in downtown Hartford. Anyone tried this?
    In 2006, we went to the venue in the late afternoon to pick up our tickets and also bought the special preferred parking pass, which I think was $20 or so.
    Later that night, we drove back to the venue and parked without a problem. And after the show, we got out of the parking lot very quickly.
    It was definitely money well spent and I would do it again.
    If parking in the venue parking lots I suggest parking near an exit with you car facing out toward the exit gate. Not so easy to do, but I have to tell you 06 was a nightmare. BF had to walk in front of car kicking all the bottles out of the way just so we could get to the exit.
    Seeing as it is a Friday the lots will be full and there will be tailgating. Whoever says they do not let you Tailgate is parking somewhere else, maybe in the $20 preferred parking lot. Hartford has a lot of colleges around, so there are those packs of drunken monkeys to deal with. No offense to college students ;). I was one once.
    Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!
    well you can take metro north to new haven and transfer to amtrack to hartford
    I think that is a bit cheaper than amtrack direct to hartford
    hartford is a small city, you could walk to the venue fromt he train station if you are used to NYC walking, or its a very short taxi ride
    coming back might be a problem as I dont think the trains run late back to the city
