I think when you can play a 35 song 4 hour set at Bonaroo and be nominated for a grammy for best alternative album you are pretty big time. Their last album was ranked as high as #9 on the Billboard top 200. Is that enough to be a big time rock band?
Rolling Stone ranked Evil Urges as the #4 album of 2008 and Spin ranked it 16th best album of 2008.
And how exactly did Kings of Leon sell out exactly? Were they in some sort of punk cult like Green Day. hahahahahaPost edited by RedMosquito22 onMember 164xxx

I have no problems with KoL or their later albums in general. I'll be the first to suck Calebs dick. But Pearl Jam did not make them big, as you suggest."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

I know I bought their albums after I saw they were opening for PJ(I obviously listened to stuff first). I had never heard of them prior. In fact they credit PJ for a lot of their success in the US. There are a lot of things that go on besides just playing before them. I'm sure PJ has a lot of influence with some big time people in the business.Member 164xxx

What Pearl Jam has given me is priceless. I gladly pay $40 to be a member of their club. And yes, if you don't like it, then don't pay it. Stop acting like you have some sort of entitlement. If all the whiners leave the fan club, the true hard core fans like myself will be left and we will not have a problem getting tickets to the shows we want to see (thru the fan club) The Band has spoiled me as far as I am concerned. There aren't many bands out there who are together for TWENTY YEARS and still making great music, still love each other (I think??!!), and have toured A LOT.
Like someone else pointed out here, look at how much you pay going out partying a night or going to the movies or on gasoline for God's sake... Pearl Jam is worth so much more... Priceless in fact.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you stating that you're a bigger fan of a band because you're willing to pay more money than somebody else to join a Fan Club?
By that I'm referring to your remarks about being "hardcore".
Before you go and make comments such as yours, maybe you should take a few things into consideration:
a) Not everybody can be in a financial position to justify a 100% price hike to gain the same benefits as before.
b) Not everybody can justify paying a 100% price hike just so they can receive a shirt they don't need, and/or a bootleg they don't want.
I'm in category b. As I stated before, I'm more than willing to pay $5-$10 more for the exact same benefits as I was receiving before (physical copies of both Deep and the Xmas Single), because inflation is the way of the world. It's something as consumers (and yes, that's all we are) that we have to accept, but to pay double the price for something we don't need or want is a bit unwarranted in my opinion.0 -
I'm confused about something can someone clear this up?
I e-mailed this to 10club:
I renewed my membership for 2011 shortly before the announcement was made. So, my membership benefits for this year of 2011 will be the same as all years past...I will still receive the hard copy of Deep and the actual vinyl single. However, I will not receive the t-shirt and the bootleg download. But, if I pay the difference of $20, then I will receive the shirt and download. So, besides no shirt and no download, there is no difference.
Then, in another year when it comes time to renew again, I choose whether to go Analog or Digital with the benefits that have been explained on the website. Is this all correct? Thanks.
They replied:
Sorry for the confusion. For all memberships that span 2011-2012 there are two levels, Analog and Digital. There is not a third level option. We anticipated hearing from a small number of members who have renewed early but now want to upgrade in order to get the 2011 single and deep in addition to the shirt and download. But no worries, it’s a simple fix.
To get you sorted out for an Analog membership just reply to this email with your Visa/Mastercard number, expiration date, and 3 digit security code. The $20 difference will be charged to your card. Please be sure to also include your shirt size. (chose from Men S-XXXL or Woman S-XXL)
I still don't get it. Do I get the Deep and single?0 -

As I understand it, yes you will
Seems like that email from Ten Club is just a stock standard reply0 -
Are you sure, because it sounds to me that I have to pay $20 to upgrade to Analog in order to get Deep, the single, the shirt and the bootleg. If I don't, I will not receive any of them. This is upsetting because I renewed my membership before the announcement and they should honor that. I have no interest in the shirt or the bootleg. All I want is the Deep mag and the single that I paid for with my $20.0

saying your "hardcore" fan just makes you elitist in my eyes, just saying. we're all fans and some fans will bitch bout a product that they are a paying customer of. don't like what the bitchers have to say then don't fucking read it. i will continue to speak my mind and if anyone on here doesn't like it, then you can seriously go fuck yourself.Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

Yep, I am in the same position, paid up to December 2011 and they told me I get the single and deep as normal.
So as I understand when I renew in December if I choose analog I get the t-shirt and download. So I think paying the difference for the upgrade to analog is only for people who have already paid for 2012 and beyond.Take me for a ride before we leave...0 -

i'm in the same boat as you, i'm actually renewed until 2013 and i did it right before the holidays. i posed the question about getting the vinyl + hard copy of deep and their reply was similar to yours.

i have to say i'm unsatisfied with this answer. its rather shady. they were asked specifically about honoring the "old contract" yet failed to address it. instead, they say its a simple fix and requests your CC info via email for an upgrade? is it definite that those who renewed prior to the change are "grandfathered" into the old terms of the membership contract?0 -

I agree, you paid for it, they should honor your contract. Why don’t you get your membership confirmation email where it lists everything you membership entitles you to and the expiry date and send it back to them?
On a side note I am very happy to see we get to chose our t-shirt size and they even have ladiesTake me for a ride before we leave...0 -
Oz Jammer wrote:The initial problem I had with the announcement was the fact that Ten Club announced it during the New Year's holiday. They fully knew that there would be questions being asked of them, but because of their timing, there was nobody around to answer them. I thought that was a very gutless move.
It was almost as though they left a flaming bag of dog shit on every one of our doorsteps, rang the doorbell, then ran away. When we stamped out the flames and realised what was on our shoes, we looked around and realised that there was nobody there.
The current problem I have with this two tier membership is the fact that to keep the exact same benefits I currently have, I have to pay double the price I was paying previously. I DON'T want another PJ shirt, and I DON'T want a 'free' bootleg. On the other hand I DO want a physical copy of Deep, and I DO want a physical copy of the 'Xmas' Single.
If they announced a $5 increase on memberships then I would've said "fair enough". Inflation is something we have to live with, and I think it's something every single one of us accepts, but an increase of 100%??
I'm loving the dog shit trick comparative analogy Rowdy! This is some of your finest work to date... My shout on 10th March mate!! hahaha0 -
