The line first came up in the Single Video Theory video where Ed was glazing over the troubled "middle period" of their career, in which he openly states that "Stone was the problem." The important thing to note about the comment Ed makes in SVT (for those that haven't seen it) is that he says it in a way that is totally tongue in cheek.
