Thats what my cousins 21 yr old baby's mommy says to me. And they thing that threw me for a loop was that she wasn't joking either. I even played a couple of their hits (jeremy, betterman, daughter, etc) and nuthin. I was floored that someone of that age hasn't the slightest clue of the band. Has anyone else ran into this situation before?

She's not a music person. I never heard of any Pavement music but I've read about them.

i had a bunch of my roommates clueless friends staying at our place this weekend and of course they started questioning and making fun of the TONS of PJ poster i have hanging all over the place... i try to mix it up with other band posters too but its pretty obvious who i favor... "do you like pearl jam or something?" ... "who is pearl jam?" ... "oh i think my dad listens to them"... etc... not even so much to do with PJ as it is i like the designs... so shut up... anyways, long story short, i know what youre talking about :D

I definitely feel like belonging to a small diaspora as a Pearl Jam fan, especially here in Europe. And in such a small country as Switzerland you get the impression of being quite alone!

    i miss bob.

as to the REAL thread topic, yes i have. mostly from people who do not listen to rock music at all. more often than not though, it's the usual "oh, they're still around?" and hey, in all honesty, i have said the same about numerous bands i was never into, or had a couple hits then seemingly disappeared, etc. if you're not into the music and/or truly following a band's career, it IS easy enough to NOT know if they still exist. :p

Pearl Jam has not had a radio hit besides Last Kiss since I Got Id. It makes sense that people who were 10 or 11 years old at that time may have never heard about Pearl Jam, or at least not remembered them.

Haven't heard that, but a 23 year old girl I work with had never heard of Eddie Vedder. I asked her if she knew who Kurt Cobain was and she looked at me like I was an idiot because everyone knows who Cobain is. And I told her everyone knows who Vedder is too!

When is it hard to get a ticket outside of tiny club shows? Now getting a good ticket, that's a different story.

Apparently, Cliff Poncier. But, I'm sure you-know-who does, too.

I come across a lot of teenagers who has never heard of them. I also met a lot of adults who ask "are they still around" and say "they were cool back in the day."

It's not too weird I guess. In my last year of college last year there were freshmen that didn't know any of pearl jams music.
