Yeah, that's about what I expected.

They'll let Jack Johnson close it out and hope the crowd will thin out by Sunday night, easing traffic concerns and such.

I do think it is interesting, as from a historical perspective, you could argue Metallica deserves the main headlining spot, but I think it is awesome that Pearl Jam got it and will be the biggest headliner at Americas two biggest festivals two years in a row. Maybe the next two years will be Austin City and Coachella?

I don't know how you could argue Metallica deserves the main headlining spot. I have no idea how they even got scheduled. There are so many people upset Metllica is playing Bonnaroo that it really sucks, because it is taking away from how awesome it is that PJ is playing. Listen, I haven't listened or even paid attention to Metallica for YEARS, but it just gives me such a bad vibe when i think about metallica playing. MMJ should be playing friday over metallifuck.

    metallica are amazing live!
i have seen them twice, once at the big day out in australia, and at wembley stadium last year, and they were both amazing gigs.
It is awesome to see both them and PJ on the same festival line up again, they both played rock werchter last year as well!
    2003 - Sydney x3,
    2006 - Reading Festival,
2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,
    2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,
    2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,
2010 - I watched it go to fire!
    2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,
    2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,
    2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

Metallica is a bigger attraction than pearl jam when it comes to attracting people! That's probably what the poster is refering to! Metallica has the bigger name of the two.

And I believe either Phil Lesh and Friends/Allman Brothers will close
  • In terms of artistic credibility though, Pearl Jam wins...and with Bonnaroo being a music and 'ARTS' festival, I would have to say Pearl Jam has stayed true to the artform...wish I could say the same about Metallica. So yeh Pearl Jam deserves the opening bill...IMHO:D

I AM thrilled about Bonnaroo. I am NOT thrilled with Metallica headlining. Doesn't seem to fit in with the mix. That being said, if I get at least one person to drop down the dough, I am in for Bonnaroo.

    You Are Right.

    don't get me wrong,
    i like Metallica

This post explains why pj got the headline. Pearl jam are clearly the better ARTists. I wonder who's audience will be bigger? prolly Metallica, but who's music presence, connection and show will be better, Pearl Jam.

2 different Genres. 2 different styles. Both rock out; granted, both dont sound the way they used to; if they did, we'd call them Green Day. :D

    We seem to disagree alot:-)

If you had both bands playing on two fields next to each other at the same time, metallica would crush pearl jam in most parts of the world! Im not making this up dude.

Here in Norway, Metallica sold 40,000 tickets in less than one hour. PJ would be lucky if they managed to sell 10,000 over 6 months!

Artistic credibility is another thing. A pj thing:-)

  • Just remember that Pearl Jam couldn't sell enough at a stadium in Germany and had to switch to an arena. That never happens to Metallica and I would never see Metallica again.

Metallica is a bigger band than Pearl Jam. They are probarly the biggest band in the world. They attract the most people. Here in Norway they sold out 40 000 tickets in 3 minutes! That's insane! They have always sold out shows as far as I know.

PJ plays more shows. If you miss this one, you can go to the next. I think that is great!

  • Why isn't there a Pearl Jam Ten Club package for this show? Metallica will be selling packages, but you have to be a fan club member. BTW remember that Lars made fun of PJ having no HQ a while back.

Most of society hasn't paid attention to Pearl Jam since 1995. Didn't PJ and Metallica play a show together before back in the 90s?

worldwide, metallica is probably bigger. at this fest, pearl jam should get the main slot. they will be an overall pleaser to fans of rock and jam-bands. i'd agree with the poster who said that Phil lesh will get the sunday slot...could turn out to be a dead show, actually...they just played a show 2 nights ago for the first time in 4 years.

The way it's listed, looks like Lesh is NOT a headliner.

I read that discussion on the Bonnaroo boards. They could, but I think it's unlikely.

Much rather see one of them in the SuperJam and Ed on-stage with My Morning Jacket.
