    cinnamon and sugar
    cozy aromas fill
    my dizzy head
    this morning
    seems promising
    but i know better
    don't i
    aromas fade
    and so goes the peace
    i'd hoped for today
    foolish
    when will i learn
    that
    some things
    never
    change

    for your pride
    you get
    a new bottle
    firmly armed
    with looming disaster
    keep the lid on
    steady as she goes
    all hands on deck
    arrows point the way
    to battle stations
    well worn from
    overuse
    tread carefully
    between the
    eggshells
    crushed
    and lying on
    the deck
    peace,

    so heavy...
    the things
    i should have
    done
    how do i
    hang that up
    tossed away
    time and time
    again
    only to return
    determined
    to shroud
    all my light
    in doubts
    peace,

    time to play dress-up
i want to be just like you
    comfortable
if just for a little while
    so much more than me
    but its wriggly in here
    woolly and itchy
    inside your skin
    is this how it
    feels on you too?
    or is it just me
    being me?

    three blind mice
    three little piggies
    one as all the others
    works from the top down
    try to teach them better
    but what do i know
    it started at the top
    that's clearer to me now
    doesn't mean i'll stop
    trying to change this
    for the better
    maybe the trick
    is
    to start from the
    bottom

    lunch boxes
    lined up on
    the counter
    full of love
    and goodies
    taken for granted
    they'll never know
    just how full
    they really are

    Glasses

Call this world an impressionist painting
    Infancy floating down the dream
Up close I see detail unfolding
    Colour showered with relief
    Distance here's no object
    When looking through the stream
In the days before soft rubber
    Brought focus and connection, (correction)
Well they offer me a laser
But why would I want that?
Whilst here I have another mode
    Just waiting in the wings
Where I can take off my protection
    Take it off at will
When safe enough to see no danger
    An instant insufficiency
    Right here in the can
    Warm like soft putty
    And swimming with Matisse

    excellent thanks! :D
    peace,

    simple as
    an apparition
    seen in ...
    not even mine

    simple as
    the darkest dawn
    beyond my eyes
    asleep and blind

    simple as
    the passing time
    dead and silent
    in my head

    i was not here
    and yet i am
    for here i'm waking
    in my bed
    peace,

    On the Brink of Life

The young man sits on a cold cement bench in the early morning sun.
His sobs form a steam that rises from his buried face.

There is no shame in these tears, no need to hide.
There is nowhere to hide from this pain.

The double glass doors to the hospital
    slowly open and close, unnoticed.
He is in deep thought, I know, lead by the pictures in his head.

One by one he will move back through them.
One by one they will become apart of him
and one by one they will stay with him forever.

This I know because I have pictures in my head too.
Pictures I have kept a lifetime.
Pictures that still make me cry,
pictures that I love and cherish, although painful.

He lifts his head, our eyes meet,
the sadness rushes to my heart with that one glance.
If only I could spare him.
Looking at his round red face,
I can't help but think of my father, in more ways than one.

Now in the embrace of his mother, the sobs become stronger
    His words almost inaudible,
"He doesn't deserve this. He doesn't deserve this, he's really a good guy."

    'I know honey, I know.'
Then the only thing that my years and my pain
and the pictures in my head can bring is this,

    'Everything happens for a reason'

    "No, Mom it doesn't."

But the answer lies in the pictures that are now his to keep.

The pain, the love, the loss that will live with him now and forever.
The answer to the why is this....

It is his pictures to keep.
