Pearl Jam followed, making what felt like its 493rd consecutive Bridge appearance during the event’s 24-year history. The grunge-rock champions, which first took the Bridge stage back in 1992, have appeared so many times that some concert-goers literally groan when they see Pearl Jam’s name on the bill.
Yet, practice makes perfect – and Pearl Jam knows how to make its hard-rock sound translate in an acoustic setting. Indeed, Saturday’s offering might’ve been Pearl Jam’s best Bridge showing yet, as vocalist Eddie Vedder and crew turned out delicious versions of the favorites “Nothingman” and “Black,” as well as an outstanding cover of Patti Smith’s “Dancing Barefoot.” Pearl Jam was celebrating the 20th anniversary of its first live performance, which fell on Oct. 22, 1990, and these fans were glad to be part of the party.0 -
