Great question. Was wondering the same thing myself. From what I've heard, I have enjoyed, but never fully gave them a chance.
What is Govt Mule 101?"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam09250 -

The Deepest End is a double live disc with a bunch of guest performers.....probably a good place to start. Good songs include:
Goin Down
Time to Confess
Slow Happy Boys
Sco-Mule
Banks of the Deep End
I Shall Return

I'm not exactly a die hard fan but in my experiences the Mule shines its brightest live...for example "The Deepest End." Cool cd and dvd with various guest bassists sitting in at a show during JazzFest. Got my start with them on the "Live...with a little help from our friends" boxset which is cool.
My advice would be to head over to http://www.Muletracks.com and do some poking around there
I've recently picked up their newest one "By a Thread" and its pretty solid. Did a reggae album I'm not really crazy about a couple years backAll I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all0 -
...they do a killer cover of Cortez the Killer.0
-
They are one of the best live bands ever, 3 hours and 20 mins they played for.
Just get some live shows, I can upload them for you if you so wish.0 -
Oh! You might also be interested in the bootleg from 12-31-08...sometimes called "Temple of the Mule"
Some pretty cool covers for a large portion of the set...

For studio albums I'd say pick up Dose first and then the Deep End 1 and 2. I'm more of a fan of the early Mule, up to the Deepest End era. For live albums see if you can find Live with a little help From our Friends0 -
A friend just told me they are playing a free show at an arts fest in Baltimore on July 17!I've met Rob

Just saw them twice at Mountain Jam, the festival Warren Haynes puts on in the Catskills. They are a great live band, and whether or not you are familiar with their music doesn't really matter. Warren sings a few lyrics here and there, but really what they do is jam. Amazing Jams. It is really incredible what they can do. And be sure to take note of the facial expressions Warren makes. He really is a master.
Have a great time at the shows!

Fanfuckingtastic live band... I've seen them 3 times, but I don't have any of their albums.
Honestly, I don't like too many of their originals. I like them best when they play covers, and every song they cover is a great song. It is fair to say half their set is covers? I saw them on Halloween in 2008 and the entire 2nd set was Pink Floyd covers. Pretty much heaven to me!
