Teal Gibson SG

Hey all-
So I've been drooling over Ed's old teal flip flop SG for a couple years now, and I've finally decided that I want to buy an SG and probably put P90s in it, as I believe he did. However, as most of you know, that color isn't available anymore and I don't want the standard maroon, brown, or black SG. Anyone have ANY idea of where I can find a teal flip flop SG?
Thanks and happy playing.

eBay is the only place where you can find them with any reliability, and even then, it's only once in a while. They tend to go for a bit of a premium, they've become somewhat collectible....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0

i got mine maybe 3.5 years ago. i went to guitar center and told them i wanted a blue/teal flip sg and they searched their national inventory and no guitar center had one. apparently it was a pretty rare finish so there aren't many of them floating around. the manager called the gibson factory and they had a bunch of them there so we ordered mine straight from the factory. it took a few days to ship it but they shipped it directly to the guitar center and they let me play it for an hour or so before i actually paid for it. i guess they figured if i did not want it someone else would buy it pretty quickly. if you really want one that is the step i would take.
when they are on ebaythey are going for more than i paid for mine. mine was only about $880 with tax i think. but then again its an SG Special, not a standard. there is no binding and it has dot inlays. there are humbuckers and i considered putting in some p 90s but i like the way the humbuckers sound. they clean up better than any of my les pauls and have more crunch and bite than the LPS as well. i am an LP man, but this guitar sounds better than a lot of my LPs. overall its a pretty bad ass guitar. i hope you can find at a good price."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

I appreciate the responses. That is a discontinued color so ordering one from Gibson is out of the question. I guess I'll just have to be patient and see what I can find on ebay, or maybe craigslist. Otherwise, I am kind of liking the blue mist SG's that are on limited production right now, so I might have to go for one of those instead. I really want something kind of unique and at a price below $1500, which is apparently easier said than done. I suppose patience will be key.0

i was just looking at old threads and found this one and i wanted to ask uncle neil, did you ever find one of these? if so did you add p-90s or did you leave it stock? i still have the humbuckers in mine. i figure why change it if it sounds good?"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

No I never did find one. I gave up looking after about 4 or 5 months and ended up getting a white faded SG-3. I only paid $600 for it used and I absolutely love it. I originally planned on putting two P90s in it and leaving one stock humbucker, but I fell in love with the stock components and just left it as is. Even though it's "just" a faded model, the white paint and three pups make it unique enough for me, and the sound is killer and versatile. Couldn't be happier.0

Was just checking out the guitar gallery at Sweetwater.com and came across this...

...it's pricey, but thought you'd like to see it. It's in Inverness Green. They also have one in Pelham Blue. Both are great looking guitars!1991-11-30 St. Paul, MN 1992-08-28 St. Paul, MN 1998-06-30 Minneapolis, MN 2000-10-08 East Troy, WI 2003-06-16 St. Paul, MN 2006-06-26 St. Paul, MN 2006-06-27 St. Paul, MN 2006-07-07 San Diego, CA 2007-08-05 Chicago, IL 2008-06-24 New York, NY 2009-08-23 Chicago, IL 2009-08-24 Chicago, IL 2011-07-02 EV Minneapolis, MN 2011-09-03 PJ20 East Troy, WI 2011-09-04 PJ20 East Troy, WI 2013-07-19 Wrigley Chicago, IL 2014-10-19 St. Paul, MN0 -
Wow that is pretty sweet, but wayyy out of my price range!
Here's a picture of my SG, and I'll throw in one of my 1990 Gibson J-100 that I bought about a year ago, which I absolutely love as well. Thanks for the revival of this thread...good stuff.0 -
