Yeah, I don't get it and I'm a big fan of his."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."

Well done Mr. Colbert.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0

His basic point is... you aren't going to find many Americans willing to get up at dawn, get driven to a bean field and spend over 8 hours in the blazing Sun to crawl on all fours, picking beans for the wages they are being paid.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! I understand what he is arguing but I just don't get how testifying in character is helpful."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."

I guess it's the message, not the messenger, that's important.
Plus... it was funny and kind of shows how far out of touch some of our representatives are with basic American culture. I mean, I do not expect them to know about every aspect of American culture, but they do employ a small army of interns and assistants to clue them in on who Stephen Clobert is.
It makes a joke out of what Congress has become... because Congress is a joke.
Also, Elmo from Sesame Street remained in character when he spoke to Congress.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Colbert was also drawing attention to the issue, as we are talking about it now...

"and I know after my testimonial...the two sides will get together and do what is best for the American people......Like you always do."
LOL something like that.0 -
The man is brilliant! And he has a big heart. He's doing more for what's good for this country than most of the people we've elected. You go, Colbert!!!0

It was funnier watching it a 2nd time because I wasn't struck at how odd it all was. His White House Correspondents Dinner speech was funnier and more brutal in its attack, but this one is pretty damn good too. 0 -
How can the Democrats claim they take this situation serious after this stupid move…..I did not watch this but I think the issue is Illegal people in this country…. Democrats, They cannot even stay on subject…“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln0

The joke is... people like yourself that fails to get the joke. You cry about the Illegals taking your jobs... are you willing to pick beans at the current wages being offered? Do you know anyone willing to do that?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

The illegals are not taking our jobs, the jobs aren't even available to us because we (citizens) are required to be paid at least minimum wage by law. Let's enforce the labor laws and make these farms play by the rules and then we can answer the question "Are Ameicans willing to pick beans?" And if the answer is no, it begs another question: Is it acceptable to treat exploit any group of human beings, citizens or not, as an economic sub-class in our society?""First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."
