I definitely didn't think it was as funny as everybody made it out to be, but I did think it was funny. The problem with movies like The Hangover is they get great word-of-mouth and by the time you actually sit down to watch it, it's not as funny as you thought it was going to be. The same thing happened with me with both the Hangover and There's Something About Mary. I didn't see them until well after they were released, and I didn't think either were as funny as they were made out to be but both were still funny.

Don't think it would be worth my time in this thread. Peoples minds are made up. Like with everything. Some people love, some people hate. (music, movies, books, etc.)
I'm not on a path to convince anyone of my personal opinion.
I loved it. I think that if you hear the press or your friends hype up a movie you go in with a different perspective and it becomes a let down. This happened to me with Wedding Crashers and Meet the Parents. I hate both of those movies.
This movie sucked. I saw some slightly funny bits in the beginning, but I turned it off when they made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.........a scene in a coffee shop (i think) with a small child.
I just thought that part was discusting humour, unneccersary and I turned it off.
I was high while I watched it.....and it made it worse. My mind is usually more clear when stoned. Also, other than a few people saying it was funny, and a few quick glances of praise online, it wasn't overhyped to me. I don't watch TV (another medium which is repulsive....sorry, too harsh) so I luckily avoid falling into the hype trap. This has nothing to do with hype. It has everything to do with the movie.
2 days after I saw the Hangover, a friend of mine called me:
"Hello?"
(no hello or nay other greeting) "The Hangover is the worst movie I have ever seen. What is wrong with everyone. It was so incredibly stupid. Mike Tyson? Just plain dumb. Who is this Bradley Cooper idiot? Is he supposed to be funny?"
"I know dude, I know."
I thought the Mike Tyson situation was about as good as his career post-Buster Douglas. Terrible. The same can be said with the Asian gangster. Why is this shit funny?
I just wanted to hear some thoughts on this movie because I feel the state of comedies is just crap (as is Hollywood). For me, absurdity does not translate into funny. And these movies push the envelope for the absurd, and there is nothing too intelligent about it. The same can be said of recent horror films - "horror"ble.
I am partial to Woody Allen and films of the like, so that may be why my perspective is a bit different.
I am jaded, I know.
P.S. if it makes a difference, I am 31. So, I am not an old fogey who is trying to bash the present to make the past look better.
Good timing WGH as I saw this for the first...... and last time last night. It was just plain stoopid. Putting Mike Tyson in seemed to be desperation by the director and it was cringeworthy.
Only funny thing were the pics at the end with the sub titles.

an intellectual comedy it is not-sounds like you take movies a bit too seriously
Im laughing just thinking about the chinese gangster "right after you suck on this little chinese nuts"-its a great character performance
do you like the seth rogen movies? knocked up? pineapple express? superbad?
Ok if you say so , it's like saying scrambled eggs suck it's all about individuality ...unless you believe your word is gospel  ..I haven't seen the movie either and don't plan on seeing it ..

Maybe I do.
Rogen is funny. Didn't like Knocked Up, but Pineapple Express was pretty funny, and SUperbad had a few moments.
All I wanted to do with this thread was start a conversation - isn't that what it is for?

My word is not gospel
its all good man-it is a conversation
see now, I thought knocked up was better than both Pineapple and superbad-except that Franco was terrific in pineapple express
I tend to overanalyze dramas and thrillers, but when it comes to comedy, its almost "the dumber the better"
I just watched shutter island-DiCaprio, Von Sydow, Kingsley directed by Sorcese
I thought that sucked.
its a good movie, but doesn't deserve the hype it got.
Here is where they messed up: they really didn't make Bradley Cooper's character likeable at all......he just came across as a cocky asshole the whole movie.
I agree. I really wanted to like it, but didn't. I laughed once, maybe twice. The humor was over done. It's like it tried too hard to be funny.. I like goofy humor, but it needs a subtle, witty twist to it.
