and we tear it all apart
the evening making our bed of hay
old barn leans
weathered wind storm red

you’re always streaking away
never mine beside the water
only mine
fields
empty dry fields
nothing green

but you hurry back
and all of it bursts with emeralds
like all the intricate details are ours

even birdsongs sing
as they die for our parting ways
like a scratched record skipping

"Hear me, my chiefs!
I am tired; my heart is
sick and sad. From where
the sun stands I will fight
no more forever."
