The most random celebrity you've met or have seen

  • Oscar De La Renta phoned my house when I was a teenager. He dialed the wrong number, he was trying to call sax fifth avenue in NY, but with the wrong area code, got me in Stonewall, Manitoba. He blamed it on an ice storm. Classy!

More recently: Mario Van Peebles at a resort in Mexico. Handsome!

Even MORE recently: Lou Diamond Phillips on Robson St. in Vancouver. Ok, maybe not so random. He's working there.

Apparently all my celebrity run-ins have to be with people that have 3 or more names. Who's next? Richard Dean Anderson? James Earl Jones? Lara Flynn Boyle? Edward Louis Severson III? :D

Donny Osmond at a county fair in Massachusetts maybe 20 years ago. I think he was performing in a charity concert.

They let him perform, as charity to him.

I asked him _ and I still can't believe that I did _ if he did a lot of performances like that. He gave me The Look and walked away. Honest to God, I didn't mean to be insulting, I was just making small talk.

Insulting an Osmond. What's next, slapping Cindy Brady upside the head?

I met Elvis Stojko in Lake Placid some years ago, the day after his ice show that we went to see.

And not random, I met Trent Reznor last year when he was doing fundraising for Eric de la Cruz.

We stood behind Kanye West at Terminal 5 last summer for a NIN show. (He was on a slightly lower blocked off balcony)

used to live near the hotel away ballplayers stay in downtown baltimore, so I've walked by Andy Petitte, wife, and kids, talked to Jason Veritek, the crappy catcher that they had for Wakefield, Wakefield, and my father-in-law followed Hanley Ramirez (as a sox player) into Victoria's Secret for an autograph when he was like 18.

Other than that I guess my biggest celeb "sighting" is my uncle-in-law James Griffiths who used to be the president of playboy. He introduced Jeff Garcia to his wife, and they often watch the Super Bowl together. My favorite part of this is that I'm a Cowboys fan, and I once wore a TO jersey in his media room to watch a game between the Eagles and Cowboys (TO kinda called Garcia gay once)...I probably deserved to see the Eagles win that game.

Duff McKagen of Guns n Roses, Velvet Revolver, and Jane’s Addiction. I worked at a coffee shop in downtown Seattle in 1999. I remember asking him when he was going to start playing again and kick the shit out of all these other crappy bands. He asked where would be a good place to buy a suit, I sent him to Giovanni’s – he got married that next weekend. It was DOPE!
    I just keep moving on....

Spent a day on a houseboat with jazz guitarist god Pat Metheny when I was 13. We were neighbors to his parents. Really cool, down to earth guy, from what I remember.

Pat has a part time house near me now, he is a down to earth guy. He also is very generous and gives back to the community frequently by playing for charity events.

Last Saturday, I waited on the dad from "That 70s Show." I've never watched it, but everybody at work was calling him "Red Forman." I don't think that was his real name, though.
    He's a pescatarian
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Yea....well, is that all?... your one lucky Dude, or is it your just so cool to hang around? :D

oh, I forgot Dave Matthews, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, Mean Gene Okerlund (and a ton of wrestlers), Vince McMahon, Sarah Brightman, Harry Connick Jr, Ricky Martin, Joe Pesci, Doug Pinneck, and Candlebox.

Edit: Add Joey Ramone (reminded by the post below)

Edit 2: I guess it counts watching Gene Simmons and a coworker having a heated discussion outside the backdoor of the Hammerstein, but didn't list it since I was just observing.

If I went to school with Susan Lucci's daughter in my class in HS and Susan was just randomly around, does that count? ...but bumping into "celebrities" like that who live in the same small town isn't really like a real celebrity I suppose.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

few experiences for me. 2 in las vegas, was in a casino day after a big boxing match, and mike tyson came strolling through with his body gaurd, signing autographs. i asked for his autograph and he just looked at me, with his cold stare and walked on. i like to think its because he couldn't understand my scottish accent, and not that i was white, because everyone else there was not.

also in vegas, they where filming a scene for fresh prince of bell air. me and my mate got to be extras walking in the background... afterwards i got to meet carlton, but will smith just ran off.

in a mall in L.A in an outside resturant, i saw magic johnston, he'd just sat down so i thought it'd be okay, but he politly turned down, an autograph, and pic.

In santa monica L.A they were filming a scene for a the rockford files movie. in 1995, got to be in the background again, but this time my scene didn't make the cut, and i never got a chance to meet james garner. but he was right in front of me, and i grew up loving the rockford files series. so i was excited about that one.

one time flying to america, i was sitting in front of all of the new power generation, and was chatting to princes tour manager, but no prince in sight.

I have in my time met loads of rock stars, too many to mention, including oiur eddie, and dave A . but thats not what this is about.

  • I met the dad from 7th Heaven once. Also met Red Sox GM Theo Epstein in the Tampa airport. I hit golf balls with 1978 AL MVP Jim Ed Rice. And I was in the same elevator with Magic Johnson in Vegas. I think thats it.

I travel a lot for work so I see a lot of celebs in airports.
    The last two worth mentioning...

Will-I-am (from the Black Eyed Peas): He and his posse were in this club I was at in Chicago. I was completely drunk and I was working my way though the crowd when he walked by. We chatted for a few and in conversation I told him that I though his music is terrible but he does good work with charities, etc. He was actually a really cool guy, even when I told him I though his music sucked ass! Hahaha! Much cooler dude that I ever would have thought.

Matt Leinart (QB Arizona Cardinals). I was at LAX airport in LA waiting in line to print off my boarding pass. It was a long day and I was tired and a bit out of it. This dude (who I never looked at initially) and this smokin' hot blonde get in line behind me. I'm listening to this guy talk and he is a complete f'n douchebag. He's talking in rap one minute, then starts talking about the club he was at the night before. I'm thinking "Typical douchebag gets the hot girl". I print off my boarding pass, turn around, mostly to check out the hot girl...and sure enough...the douchebag is Matt Leinart. He has a baseball cap on, but pulled down really low.
Turns out the guy is on my flight back to Phoenix.
The most shocking thing is that he was flying Southwest. Hahaha!
The plane was mostly full and I don't think one person recognized him the whole time.
