I hear shit about 'Family Values' from the Tea Party side of the house... but, what exactly does that mean... to YOU? I mean, if you are someone that believes in shit like, 'Restoring Family Values in America...', seriously, what the fuck does that mean?

Ah yes, don't people remember the good ol' days that never actually existed? We need to go back to when we were killin' Injuns, enslaving Africans, not allowing women to vote, denying people basic civil rights, etc. etc. etc., you know, the good ol' days. At least for white, male, American land owners.Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

family values is a catch-phrase coined by some PR firm that knows how to work the christian-conservative base ... in reality, it means jack shit ... as the peeps that are always preaching family values are closet gay white men having sex with guys half their age in a super-8 ...0

Exactly, everytime I hear teabagger say we need to get back to the way it was, this is what they really mean!0 -
exactly. it is just a buzzword. in reality, not every family has the same value system or values the same things. usually the ones that are espousing this term are the ones that want to jerk our society back to the 1950s where domestic abuse was tolerated, fear of a lurking enemy rules policy, divorce rate was nil, church attendance was high, only one parent had to work, and june cleaver served breakfast, lunch, and dinner to her husband and 2 sons on a tray....
on a side note, i really like it when these family values people get busted for having either hetero or homosexual trysts outside of their marriage....it just shows them for who they really are..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
The easiest way to disarm someone you are arguing with is usually just to have them define the terms they area using. Half they time they won't because it will either expose their or their group's hypocrisy or cause them to backtrack on what they are saying. If they do try, it usually exposes their ignorance on the subject."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."
"With our thoughts we make the world"0 -
wasn't family values a tour featuring korn, and limp bizkit about 10 years ago?"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
or this...."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

family values is this is what we think constitutes a family and this is what we think a family should represent and what you longhairs consider a family is wrong.
id be interested to hear what anti family values rhetoric sounds like.. cause ive never heard it... maybe it doesnt exist. and what one decides is their family, regardless of its makeup and what that means to them IS family values.hear my name

That was the original method to salute the flag while reciting the the 'Pledge of Alligence'. It was changed because of the relationship with the 'Heil Hitler' Nazi Salute... to make in more 'Family Friendly'.

"Family values" is a sneaky way for white christian people to pretend they live like the show Leave it to Beaver and everyone else needs to do the same or they're going to hell and are wrong, corrupt and sinful.CONservative governMENt

Promotion of "traditional marriage" and opposition to adultery [9][10][11][12]
Support for a roll back of aspects of Feminism and support for a traditional role for women in the family.[13][citation needed]
Opposition to same-sex marriage[8]
Support for traditional education and parental involvement in that education[14]
Support for policies that encourage "adoption over abortion"[15]
Support for behavior identified as traditional or moral such as respect, discipline, attentiveness, religious commitment[16][17]
Support for "abstinence education" exclusively regarding risks associated with early sexual activity such as teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases[8] while not teaching such topics of sex education as human sexual behavior, safe sex and birth control.[18]
Support for policies that are said to protect children from obscenity and exploitation.[19][20][21][22][23][24][25]0 -
That's what I hear... vague references of 'Morality' and maybe a touch of Christan Values... but, never any specifics. Such as what do you do in your family that will translate to every other family? Not kill people? That has nothing to do with your values... most families in the country... in the world have a 'Don't kill people' policy they live by.
So, what is it?
...
I say, it's bullshit. A made up piece of crap to garner votes in an election. All some fuck has to say is they stand for 'Family Values' and dumb fucks automatically vote for them... never questioning WHAT values he/she is specifically addressing.
And seriously... when the word 'Family' is used as an adjective... it usually means 'Crap'. Example: 'Family Dining' means crappy food whose only redeeming quality is it's fucking cheap... 'Family Entertainment' usually means having to go someplace with a bunch of miserable parents and tons of out of control kids. The only time it is used in a good sense... 'Family Guy'.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Well, one would imagine that if these were your core beliefs... you'd be able to put them down from your comitment to them without having to reference Wikipedia to find out what your core values actually are.
Then again... it does makes sense.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Doesn't "family values" in the american context just mean republicans? Meaning if it's something republicans like/dislike it's part of "family values"? A big collection of "putting GOD back into the public" and "women should know their place, like they used to".
As for what I would put into a family values term, well, I guess it's about valuing your family. Which everyone should, but that has no bearing on public policies. Hell, I'm a pro-choice atheist socialist motherfucker, and I like families and plan on having one. I plan on treating my family well too. And I will be every time on the exact opposite on just about any policy issue than the right wing repubs in America. I will even up the ante by saying that I think there should be welfare benefits for families, given the cost of raising a child these days. I'll hand that to our centrist Christian Democrats in Norway, they really DO support legislation in favour of families with children. Which I think is much more about valuing families, than attitude towards gays and abortion...
Peace

I never thought the words “family values” could stir up so much negativity.
I take family values to mean that you set a proper example for your children to follow. It includes teaching integrity, generosity, good manners, and teaching the values of hard work, effort, and discipline.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -

Careful man, you're going to the dark sidebecause you know the only time you put the word family in front of another word so it has meaning is when we're talking about Family Guy. It's quite obvious that alot of people on here do not have families of their own yet.

the words only stir up negativity because they are used as a partisan tool...
Your take on family values is one that we can pretty much all agree with, but the GOP uses the term to encompass issues like gay marriage, abortion, church/state, etc...My whole life
