I FOUND THE STUFF! Someone tipped me of that they found my backpack and four guitars. They went through the backpack and found my last name. They found me on facebook and had me call them. The problem is, the guitars have been outside during some BAD weather (though in their gig bags). They are a bit wet and I don't know what that means for the electronics. What can I do take make sure they're not destroyed?

OH MY GOD! That's great news, I hope _ as long as the guitars are all right.
    Where did they find it?!?!?

WOW, that is good news!!! you will have to give us details about what happened and where they were found and stuff, and more importantly if they caught the theifs..... i am so happy they found your stuff, i just hope that nothing is damaged beyond repair.

i would look at the neck and make sure nothing is bowed or warped and i would plug them in and see if they at least are in working order....be sure to dry them off first and i would try a blow dryer on the pickups, the cable input, on the saddles/bridge and take off the back panels and really dry the guts off very well before plugging them in though...

on the bright side, if the things are destroyed and they are a total loss, if your insurance covers it you should get a nice check and can re-buy all of those things...

I got an anonymous tip on facebook. Some guy who mows lawns was mowing our neighbors lawn. The house was recently vacated. He found my bookbag with my papers in it and searched my name. He gave me his number and said to call. I had a hunch it was the house next door so I went and looked at the garage. As I walked up, I saw my stuff sitting in next to the fence. There have been TERRIBLE storms so the gear is wet. The stratacoustic still plays well, though. Everything is found, other than the camera, though. It's a loss but finding this gear has made me so much happier. The books are shot but I already got new ones. Thank you SO MUCH to EVERYONE who sent their thoughts and prayers. I cannot put into words how blessed and lucky I am to have such great friends.

AMAZING! I hope its all ok!

I'm a drummer so I have no idea about anything, but you'll probably want to make sure they are completely dry. Talk with a good small guitar shop to get their opinions. You may want to consider putting them in a small room, and get a bunch of cans of those moisture absorbing beads to try to draw the moisture out of the air, and thus out of the guitars.... or me, I'd try a sauna. But ask a good guitar shop.

    Good luck!!
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

ALL the guitars are seeming to be in working order! I dried them out and plugged them in. The strings need to be replaced.

It's helped me a bit but I'm still in a rut. I think I just need to take that break and wait until my batteries are fully charged. Maybe kinda "starve" myself for it?

Glad things turned out ok. Taking a break after a stressful event may be just what you need. You’ll know when the time is right.

In the meantime, take some photos of your equipment, write down your serial numbers, and the value of each piece of your equipment submit them as part of your homeowner’s/apartment insurance, trust me, less hassle, less stress in the long run, for only a few more pennies on your insurance.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

  • Also check your insurance policy closely - you might find out you are NOT insured if you play professionally (even if you only get paid $10 a gig).

Thanks. I don't play professionally, though...I got all the gear (other than my camera) back. We think we know who is responsible for this stuff but no way of proving it.
