reworked songs

pearl jam have now been around for 20 years. yet if you listen to a recording from, say, 1992 vs one from 2010, songs like "alive" and "even flow" don't sound very different. ok, maybe longer solos, different solos, but the song is basically the same. it's the same throughout their career. they've reworked a couple songs--in my tree, i am a patriot (if you can even count that), and songs lengthen/shorten (specifically i'm thinking of rvm and porch), there are tags, but why not a bit more variation?
i say this because i picked up The Velvet Underground: Velvet Redux (Live MCMXCIII) dvd, one of the shows from their reunion tour in the early 90s, expecting to be underwhelmed. i loved it not because they were still at the top of their games (clearly not, though there were some great moments) but every song on there was done differently than the version i know well. while i wouldn't expect pj to change every single old song (and should probably give the newer songs at least a few good years to set in), how about a little bit?
it would help the diehard fans who have to endure even flow at every single show, but also the band from getting so tired of playing the same thing every night. it's like something pj basically already does: changes the setlist from night to night. when you hear a band that does that, you wonder why more bands don't.

ah yes-also forgot the 06 betterman that was done a couple times with the key intro (i think storytellers and bridge off the top of my head)
Which reminds me of the slow, Ed-&-Boom version of The Kids are Alright, from the Northwest School fundraiser in '05. It wasn't very good, I'm afraid.
