i always took it as,
what once was a complex structure (whether it be an emotion like love etc etc) is now defunct and in its place lies an empty spaceWachovia Center, Philadelphia - 10/3/05

I always interpreted "house of cards" as a fragile thing, and which is now being used as a "reservoir" or rather something that you can get a lot out of - such as love.
Love is a very fragile thing, and now that the circumstance is right, the narrator is "rich" on love.
If that makes any sense

House of cards -- takes a lot of effort to build, falls apart easily.
reservoir -- source of water (or in this case, comfort) that is collected, shall we say, passively, without undue effort.
So, think of it in terms of relationships, the reservoir is a relationship that just sort of happens naturally, is not super-high-maintenance.
That's my take, anyway. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0 -

Another variation on the same answers (since I love this line too):
The relationship that was initially very flimsy and tenuous is now so good it has a deep well of greatness that would take quite a bit to overturn (unlike a house of cards).|9.5.93Gorge|2.6.95Moore|5.7.98AROSpace|7.21.98Seattle|7.22.98Seattle|10.21.00PHX|11.5.00Seattle

yeah, house of cards refers to the fragility of new love that's sort of always on shaky ground, and a resevoir is what a stable and strong relationship can be - love as a dependable "resource" so to speak.0

I believe the literal interpretation is correct.0

I agree
a fragile relationship or life is now stable and everything he or they went through to get there,
he or they can now embrace0 -
