Pearl Jam & The Doors

As long as I can remember my two favorite bands in the world have always been PJ and The Doors. I started listening to The Doors at the tender age of 5 when I found my dad's 8-track... yes, 8-TRACK.... of The Doors greatest hits and immediately fell in love with that voice (Jim Morrison) and that unique organ/keyboard sound (Ray Manczarek). It's one of the earliest influences on me and was one of the big reasons I became a pianist/keyboardist. I never had a musically cathartic experience like that again until 1992 (and haven't had one since). I was 15 years old and I was up late watching 120 Minutes on MTV and saw this video that started with a shot of a cascading wave and then came the most beautiful, haunting guitar riff I've ever heard, and then.... that VOICE! A voice that was testifying in song that he was "still Alive". I swore it was Jim re-incarnated. A year later I found out that the surviving members of the Doors asked Eddie to front them at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction performance (and what a great performance it was)... I was thrilled to say the least.

When the remaining Doors (except drummer John Densmore) decided to re-unite and tour a couple of years ago, I was adamantly against it... Ian Asbury? He's a good singer, but he didn't have the spark or charisma that Jim had, and Eddie has, in spades. He just turned into a Jim look-a-like with the leather pants and the same haircut. John Densmore seemed to feel the same as I did because he refused to tour... and when he said this, I couldn't agree more:

"I play with Jim. If there's someone of that level, OK. I'm not gonna join them with Ian. That's not to diss Ian, he's a good singer - but he's no Jim Morrison. Eddie Vedder? My God, there's a singer."

    they also recently said they would all get back together and tour as long as eddie was the singer.

    I agree with you. The Doors were always my favorite band and then PJ. Two amazing voices for sure. :) Not to say that the band doesn't play a huge part in it, it does for sure, it's just I tire easily and can't listen too long if the voice doesn't 'move' me. :) There are good bands where I love their music, but the singer's voice just gets on my nerves. :D

    agreed....this is my problem with most of todays bands....all they're voices sound the same....if i don't like your voice, your band has little chance with me :o:)
