Which version of 'Ten' is the best?

There are three versions of Pearl Jam's debut CD, Ten. I was wondering which version is considered the best (sonically) to our legion of fans.

1- Original 1991 release

2- Remaster of original release

3- Brendan O'Brien Remix

Thanks in advance for your comments.

The original Ten I bought on cassette in 1992 that I wore out. I still have the tape but it's snapped. I played the piss out of that thing.
  • I personally like the Brendan O'Brien Remix the best. Seems to me that the bass and everything is pumped up and much clearer than the original release/remaster. Plus, if you count Brother and Just a Girl as Ten songs....those r deff. an added bonus. :P

    hands down....
it has that live room sound you get on vs.
    it's bigger and more natural
you can feel the intensity...while the original is drowning in reverb (which is great)...but, not pJ

  • BOB remix hands down.

The sounds are less muddled on it, every instrument sounds more prominent and it has that sound like VS has where it actually sounds like all the instruments were recorded together as opposed to pieced together.

Same here with the exception of one song. I like the original mix of Jeremy better.

The latest Brendan O'Brien remix is easily the best version. You can hear the instruments, all that reverb crap is toned down loads so it actually sounds like the band is playing together in a room like on Vs, Vitalogy, No Code etc.

Have you heard the remixed Porch through headphones? Holy F*ck it's some crazy ass shit right there.

  • BOB remix for sure. It's really the way the band intended it to sound. Among the other instruments, the drums have much more "oomph" in this version. "Oceans" sounds so much better without the ill-advised effects, although I really think every song benefits from the removal of the reverb. I'll still listen to the original (or the remaster) for the sake of nostalgia, but the BOB remix IS Ten in my eyes.

The Rough Mixes demos are my favourite by far but they're all good in my book. I just love the rawness of the demos and the guitars and drums may be a bit unrefined but they're heavy as fuck!!

    Oh damn!

I have the Super Deluxe, and I always thought that the remaster was just a re-issue, with different artwork... you mean to say that the "pink" version of Ten is different than the one I have in my Super Deluxe?

Ahh, so it's "digitally re-mastered" so i'm guessing that any differences between the "new" version and the "pink" version would be minimal?

I actually like the original better. BOB remix doesn't sound like the same album to me.

I really appreciate the OBrien Redux, but for me I still want to go back to the sound the way it was when I first listened to the album.

This is most true of Even Flow, it has to be the original for this song.
