A song that made a mark

Small Town takes me back to high school. Small Town is still very dear to me, as well as Corduroy, Gone, and Sometimes. I'm in my mid-20's and I feel like I've finally grown up, it's taking me a long time to become myself. Also, Daughter is pretty much the official soundtrack of my life (I'm not sure where or when Ed met my mom,lol).

The song Tremor Christ continues to make a mark depending on what time of the day I hear it and how I am listening to it.
Playing it with all the lights off through head phones (not ear buds) is the best...

Why Go hands down.....I got Ten for Christmas because I was blown away by Jeremy and Even Flow and I was blown away by the whole album but EXPECIALLY Why Go.....I had very strict parents who thought my listening to Pearl Jam, wearing combat boots and flannels was punishable....my mom burnt my boots, and I will never forget I had my bedroom walls lined like wallpaper with pj posters, among other musicians that I liked. Pearl JAm was mostly on the walls though. My mom came in and just took her hand down my walls and ripped everything to shreds......they ended up threatening to send me away somewhere but never did......I wasn't the cookie cutter little girl they wanted........so yeah when Ed sings, "She could play pretend, she could join the game boy, she could be another clone!" It really made a mark. thanks to anyone listening

A lot of Pearl Jam songs have made a mark on me - at different times in my life, so much so that I sometimes find myself thinking 'when did so-and-so happen....?' Oh, yeah - Yield....1998!'

I can vividly remember walking with my Dad at a little music festival we were at - must have been in 1999 - and the subject moved to Pearl Jam, and I started trying to explain how much their music meant to me, and how much it had helped me through times of difficulty. Around that time 'Faithfull' was still making a big impression on me, and trying to explain something to my Dad (he wasn't really getting it) I started reciting the lyrics like a poem - for some reason when I got to the 'it's rare to come upon.....' line I just started welling up. I got really choked up!

There are songs from the early days which left a massive impression on me - having a very difficult relationship with a young woman who had suffered sexual abuse - the first time I heard 'Saying No' it was really quite scary - it was almost like Eddie was talking directly to me there - confronting parts of the situation, addressing me - 'When she says stop, you gotta stop, when he says go, you still gotta stop.....'. That was probably the first time I really took note of Eddie Vedder - and I've been taking what he has to say seriously ever since.

Ya know, this performance has also left a mark on me, now that you mention it.

Pearl Jam fanness grew very gradually on me, over years, and seeing this, especially this song (although I didn't see it until after 2000) was definitely a few "marked" steps up that very very nice ladder.

The most BIGGEST, that's right, of the Pearl Jam marks was when my husband got Yield, among other CDs from the library, and I couldn't hit "eject" for I'd say 8, 9 weeks.

I couldn't take F-er out.

I didn't check the names of any songs, I just let it play and play and play. Ironically, I didn't YIELD> Or did I?

Brings me back to '91, when Smells Like Teen Spirit had just hit the airways.
It was within that week that a school mate give me a cassette that he'd dubbed four songs onto.
Once, Evenflow, Alive, Why Go. He says "These are the guys from Mother Love Bone. They're from the same place as Nirvana! lol

That week, I put my dimes and nickels together and bought my very own cassette. Played it a thousand times that first week. The explosion of Once was a perfect way to say "hi, we're Pearl Jam". And hearing Ten now... 20yrs later... takes me right back there!
