Agree 100%. I have never been a Clapton fan. Sure, he can play guitar alright, but so can a lot of old dudes in run-down bars in Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, etc. It's his songwriting that keeps me away from him. It is sooo boring. People say he has soul or plays the blues, but I do not feel that at all when I hear him play. I would say the opposite, I feel no soul, I feel no pain or passion. I don't feel it at all.

Some people may be bothered by this, but I would put him in the same class as John Mayer. Guys who were blessed with an azmaing talent in using their hands to fly across a fret board majestically, but miss out on the most important part of making good music, which is playing from the heart.

Then you, my friend, need to read his book. You'll understand a lot better.

Love the guitar solo in White room- it is sick! :D I loved seeing Clapton live. The whole "blues" thing can get pretty mundane sometimes. I'm like that with all blues artist, like the stuff, but have to be in a certain mood to really enjoy its greatness. Clapton doesn't just play blues which is why I think it stays fresh to me. I could listen to "white room" on repeat religiously though- great fucking song.

I'm not saying he might not have good reason. I don't know much about his life, except his child dying, which sucks, I am not saying he doesn't have reason to have soul or play the blues, what I am saying is, I don't feel it, I don't feel it in his voice, I don't feel it in his music, it just feels plain and boring to me, but you know, that's just an opinion I guess. He does live here in my town when he is in the states, and his wife went to high school about minute from my house growing up, so that's cool I guess.

I've seen Eric 6 times. The God thing embarrassed him but the reasons why he's so good.

    He plays from the heart.
    He has timing and feel.

I really don't get the hype with a lot of artists from his era. I've tried to like people like Clapton, Hendrix, Deep Purple, etc, but it doesn't do anything for me.

I'm in agreement with you. It's not to be delibarately contentious or anything but they just don't grab my attention.
It's gonna be a glorious day...
